Infos needed for Barco 1209s CRT tubes PT22-22

Hi guys,

I recently sold my 1209s, but I still have a set of spare tubes left.
First I thought they were P19LCPs, but I checked them yesterday and found out that I have a set of PT22-22. I didn“t find much info here except that they have a smaller beam spot, just like the P19LUGs.

Can anybody tell me a little bit more about these tubes? Can they be installed into a 909 as well? And how is the overall picture quality of these tubes?

If the PT22-22 have white/white guns (the color of the standoff on the gen assy) they are the smaller apature guns as are used in the P19LUG's. The only difference between the LUG's and PT22-22's at that point is that the LUG's have a Grid3 (KH Grid) on pin 7 that the 909 has connected on their neck boards. This grid improves the spot a bit but really isn't that important. So to answer your question if the PT22-22's are for Barco's, yes they can be used in the 909.

Hi Terry,

thanks for your answer. So I suppose the PT22s can reproduce a sharper image than the standard P19LCPs if someone would install them into a BG1209s?

Correct.

If the gun standoff are white/white or pink(brown)/white then they are the higher performance guns and will produce a smaller beam (spot) than the stock LCP tubes which have yellow/white or blue/white guns.
So yes theoretically that should be able to produce a sharper image within the limits of a CRT.

I only use P19lug tubes now or less frequent PT-22.

These high rez tubes are a real must for HD 1080p they are sharp and resolve much more detail.

Intresting if you look the P16( high rez 8) tube shares the same gun as the PT-22 just not the same 9 inch glass.

The cost aprox 2x the cost however of a rebuilt normal res tube.

PT-22 and P16 are geting harder and harder to get and dont seem to be produced anymore. I can still have the P16 tubes custom made but they are aprox $1000.00 The P19lug are in great supply and are still made by my tube guy.

Some fell the P19lug has a bit better contrast and black level. I have seen this and think it might be true.

The P19lug is a newer design.

The PT-22 dates back to 1993 as I have a few 1200 units that had PT-22 that were odd.

Also the early 909 unit had a mix of PT-22 and P19lug and this was very common. Typically the green was a PT-22 and the RED and Blue was P19lug.

By 2003-2004 the 909 and cine 9 went to all P19lug. I think barco had a large supply of PT-22 they need to get rid of.

You can modify the neck card of any projector to accept the new P19lug but its important to modify because if you dont the focus will be poor.

The 909 will opperate fine with both tubes as the neck cards are designed for both, but thats the only projector.
