The UK had the DVD in OAR.

You might regret that. This morning, I got to see and hear a bit of the TIMECOP HD-DVD disc (in a retail environment with an audio set-up far superior to mine) and was not impressed by the audio. The bottom end in particular seemed much weaker than the DTS LD. PQ, however, looked fine.

No it doesn't. Studio Canal (or another HD DVD-friendly studio) would have to own the rights in another country for it to be possible for us to import it. This doesn't appear to be the case, though IMDB's info appears to be incomplete.

Lions Gate owning the domestic distribution rights has no bearing on whether or not it will be available on HD DVD in another country.

Thats annoying, I have the DTS LD and was also hoping to retire it.

Too bad we can't combine the DTS LD's sound with the superb video quality of the HD-DVD.

You can always play both discs in synch. I've done it with the HD broadcast of DARK CITY, using the DTS LD for the audio. Looked and sounded great that way. Not something that one may want to do all the time, of course!

That's gonna be a real pain as soon as the LD hits its side break.

I dont see mysef ever owning a Van Damm movie. His acting skills are worse than Sly's

Yep - but for a Van Damn film - it aint too bad. Best of the worst.

I thought it would be too. But I just referenced the counter on the LD and when it hit zero, I hit pause on the DVR video. Got lucky and continued on with everything in synch!

Just finished watching it tonight. I thought the PQ was pretty good. Couldn't crank it due to the family sleeping. Definitely glad I picked this up.

Hmm impressive Alan looks just like it did at the Empire Leicester Square on the biggest THX screen in the UK back around (Wednesday February 8th 1995) the film was played in dts 35mm of course and if I remember I sat at the very front, front and centre and the scope image was eye-popping with dazzling visual effects and 13KW THX chest tummy rumbling soundtrack to boot.

The Foley effects where killer sonic smack crunch and wallop (Jean-Claude "The Muscles from Brussels" Van) does the splits, then later tossing that guy though the door headfirst LOL. For that door to break apart like that, must have had a bad case of wood mites!

I saw the film a second time around at the local cinema ABC screen 1 Westover road Bournemouth, it was fun still only played back in Dolby stereo as the cinema only had Phillips DP70 projector with Dolby CP200 and no Dolby SR-D at the time much less dts or SDDS8. The sound was played over the same loudspeakers JBL 4675-A THX as the Empire, but sonic impact was lost even over the LCR fronts. Sure it had bass but no where as near as what the Empire can put in your face!

I later brought the THX first edition laserdisc, this was before dts cropped up on laserdisc. I still have the laserdisc and later brought a region 2 DVD so I can listen to discrete six-track Dolby stereo digital and the time travel sled car rocket thing, wow! But not as trilling as the Empire WOOOOOOOW!

Oh, yeah that was thilling action film of the year by Directed (Peter 2010 Hyams).

Merry Christmas

I have not done this with LD sound but I have a ton of HD-DVDs of movies that have D-Box motion codes available, but HDDVD will not sync to a D-Box system. I have a copy of each film on standard DVD and I use the DVD to activate the motion controller. It takes a little trial and error but once you do it a couple of times, it's pretty simple. I have the LD DTS version of Jurassic Park and I have always thought that was the besst soundtrack available for this movie. I need to give this a try sometime.
