Distributed Audio - wallmount vs handheld?

I've been thinking about a Digilinx system for a while noow, although I'm starting to think that a handheld controller is actually the way to go. I've been looking at the Sonos website and their handheld controller seems like it would be much more convienent than wall mounted controllers. I'm looking for opinions on a few handheld controllers vs wallmount controllers in static locations.

I know the Sonos system is different than Digilinx, but there's a trade-off between functionality and convienence.

Why not have both?
A handheld is nice until you can't find it. Or when you pick it up you realize it needs a recharge. Wall mounted devices are always in the same place, don't need charging and in the case of DigiLinX can support intercom (plus control lots of things besides just your muisc ie: lights, IP camera etc, thermostats, TV).
Since DigiLinX uses Flash as an interface, there are lots of handheld controllers you can use, from dedicated remotes from RTI to general purpose devices like web tablets, PDA's, web enabled phones etc.
You can pick up a little Nokia N800 for under $250, which easily controls DigiLinX (and all the related systems) and you can browse the web with it too (the new n810 looks pretty cool too). Or step up to a larger UMPC like the Samsung Q1.

You'll get lot's more flexibility, functionality and reliability.

I agree with Buzz. Handhelds are nice but they should augment wall mount devices. If you go with a handheld only solution you will soon find that you will want more than one handheld because it will never be where you want it. This is especially true if you have a larger home or a home with multi-levels.

As an example, I have one of those cordless phones that has a base station and three phones. I can never find a phone when I need it. When I do finally find one it is with the other two. Sometimes lying right next to each other.

I have several wall mount devices and I also have a PDA that I use as the handheld. My handheld runs Windows Mobile just like all those smart phones plus it has TomTom GPS. It is a general purpose device that also controls my audio system. The digilinx system also has IR remote capability. I find that to be very convenient too. Plus its easy for others the house to figure out. Only 10 large buttons.

I didn't actually put 2 + 2 together and think about a web tablet. That'll work.

I would expect to need at least 2 wireless devices one that is supposed to stay upstairs and one that should stay downstairs. Maybe a 3rd that I'd use when I couldn't find the others.

This is a bit off topic, but does Digilinx only work with Lutron RadioRa? I have an HWI system.

Thanks,
