Great lineup of movies.

The only thing is, haven't you already shown Lawrence of Arabia? If so, it's technically not a "premiere", though any time someone can see that film in HD is good news.
wow The Wall, cant wait to see this in HD!!!!

That's why God invented the DVR and bestowed the pause button upon it.

Nice lineup. Assume that'll be the restored version of Arabia...not all that attuned to the various flavors.

Always enjoy the art house airings. Watched various M. Antonioni films on the Sundance channel this month, then Googled for HD-disc versions, plus similar classics recently introduced by Criterion as a 480i DVD collection. No luck. Not sure if 1080/24p masters even exist, but maybe HDNet Movies could aid HD-disc distribution and 1080i airing of the 50 film collection from Janus.

Came across a quote from a Criterion VIP that they weren't considering HD introductions because of the HD DVD versus Blue-ray conflict (two versions needed), although don't see why dual-format HD discs wouldn't solve that conflict. Awaiting the introduction soon of Samsung's dual-format 5000 HD-disc player (since the LG machine lacks adequate menu features), and various art-house HD-disc collections from HDNet, or any source, would be a sure purchase here. Something like a joint Janus/HDNet/Criterion/Warner HD-disc collection. -- John

You kidding me? Lawrence of Arabia in 1080i OAR HD is worth that measly 5 clams all by itself. HDNM is the best bargain on the tube.
Does this channel have to be subscribed to now on D*? I flipped it on last night and it said "to get his channel call..." or something to that effect.
Pharcyde: Yes. First three months are free. $4.99 a month after that for HDNet Movies, UHD, MGMHD and MHD.

Others, if I got the list of channels wrong, please chime in.

PS. I agree with archiguy on HDNet Movies. it's a must-have for me.

That's interesting, I've had my current subscription with D* for about 1 1/2 years and this is the first time I've heard of HDNet Movies being an extra $4.99...that channel has always been active for me until last night.

It started about a week ago.

The surprise will be on the customer service rep at D* that has to take my call later this afternoon.

...and you'll find yourself suprised again when they say "that's just the way it is..."

Best case, they'll give you an extension on the free period.

I love surprises!

Heck they already roped me into their premier package, whats another $4.99..

Hate to say it, that's the great thing now about FIOS - no "HD fee", no extra fees for HD brackets, if you've got the SD version, you get the HD version and if there's no SD version, it's part of the basic package. And the best PQ around in both formats. Both HDNET offerings are great.

I may change my tune in several years, but now that seems to be their business model. I used to be with D* before too.

Cool lineup once again - HDNM continues to impress...
Damn! This sucks. All I have is HD-Lite. Would have been nice to see this at 1920x1080 at 17 mbps.

HDNet Movies has not shown Lawrence to my knowledge.

They have been teasing us for quite a while now, but I don't think it has been shown before. Glad to see it will be coming soon!

Nice lineup although Scrooged is showing two months too late
post #24 of 29
With the extra $5 I'll just cancel HBO. See, I can save money by their greed for more of it. Nice line-up btw. LOA, The Wall and Hidalgo...very nice.

You're looking at it the wrong way - they're actually showing it 10 months early...

Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love - premieres Tuesday, February 5th at 10:05pm
Starring Indira Varma, Sarita Choudhury, Naveen Andrews. Directed by Mira Nair.

Softcore porn.

Recognizable leads with India Varma and Naveen Andrews if you watched Rome and Lost respectfully.

What is this $4.99 package called? Can you (re)activate it online? Does it include MGMHD, which also went black?

Thanks!
It's the "HD Extra Pack", there should be a way to get it through My Account (or whatever it's called) online @ DirecTV.com, and yes, it includes MGMHD.

Thanks.

I also received an email back from CS, and, yep, you can add it to your list for $4.99. A bitch, but I want to see Lawrence in HD!
