LG 47LC7DF HDMI sound issue & firmware question

Hi everyone. I bought the LG 47LC7DF TV a month ago. I've been having an issue with all my HDMI ports and now its starting to bother me.

Every once in a while (no regular intervals), the sound coming out of the TV has static. It sounds like older speakers are not connected completely right. And changing channels on my cable box, once in a while i get a high to low pitched sound as it switches the channel. It sounds like an older TV turning off just at a higher pitch.

I've tried all the HDMI inputs, it does the same thing on every one. Used different cables, still get the interference and static on my Xbox 360 Elite more than anything but with the cable box as well.

Lastly, I tried following the steps to check and update the firmware from LG's site. I tried a 1GB and a 512MB flash drive, both Kingston and without U3 software. It sees the folder but the Media Manager always comes up. Is there any other way to do this?

I just bought that same model in November from Best Buy. About three weeks ago I noticed about 1 1/2 inches of vertical lines that appeared out of no where one day. So I exchanged it for a new one. And the first day I noticed my sound turns off sometimes when flipping channels. The only way to turn it back on is to turn the TV off and back on. I've tried changing the input, messing with the sound settings, etc. Nothing works other than turning the TV off and back on.

I know its not the same problem you're having but I just wanted to rant somewhere and saw this.

I don't know if I should just have LG take care of it through their on-site warranty or if I should just return it (I've got 20 days left to make an exchange), but then I might come up with a new problem.

What cable provider are you using? I have a Comcast HD DVR box and the sound problem happens to me once in awhile. Its actually the box muting the sound, not the TV. Theres a hack to add a mute/unmute button for the box itself that can be found online. Thats assuming you have the same setup.

I'm just trying to figure out what firmware version I am running and how to upgrade it. The instructions on LG's website aren't exactly helpful.

I have Comcast also but it is standard cable. I receive some HD stations but I'm not using a box, just plugging straight into the TV.

I never had the sound issue with my previous TV so this must be an issue with the TV itself.

Ah ok...the problem i'm talking about is cable box specific.

Did LG ever tell you to upgrade the firmware or how to do it by chance?

I have the same problem. And I use the same solution by turning it off then back on. Have you heard of any solution. And what is the up grade your speaking of. I am not aware of a web sight.

Yeah...it gets annoying...the built in speakers being what they are don't help...sometimes you just have to deal with the distortion...oh well...time for me to get a surround sound system.

and the upgrade I was talking about was a solution I found on LG's website but it didn't work for me. The "tech support" guy I talked to was absolutely no help. Even having the model number...he ARGUED with me that my TV was not 1080P capable. I just wanted to say, "Douchebag, learn to speak English first. Then read over what you have right in front of you before you even begin to start arguing with me." Extremely ****ing frustrating when tech support is outsourced to another country.

Has anyone figured out how to update the firmware on the LG 47LC7DF? jasezero raised the question a couple posts ago, and I haven't found the answer to this either. Thanks!

Here's the V-Chip upgrade site for a bunch of LG TVs LG Firmware - it apparently has other tweaks besides the V-Chip stuff for most models. Make sure you get the model number right.

I tried this method...couldn't get it to work...anyone else have this TV that has been successful?

Here's a simple yet effective way to fix the issue. Begin by unplugging the TV. Next locate the on/off button on the right side of TV (as you are looking at the screen). Press and hold the on/off button for 30 seconds. If you see the red light appear on the screen, go ahead and turn the tv on. This should have reset the tv to the original factory release mode. Hopefully the problem is solved. If not, you're screwed since this model is discontinued and no longer supported. Best of luck.

When I set up my TV, every 15 minutes or so the volume would turn down by itself. Unfortunatly, when I purchased my TV, there was nothing in the box except the remote. I had to go online and download the manual. (Now, I realize how much stuff I am actually missing) The manual states that there is a default "in store mode" that will return all of the settings back to the store demo mode i.e. volume and picture. There are also parts and accessories in the manual to help with distortion. Maybe you should go online and download the manual. There may be parts that you are missing that were not included in your box too.
