what's better for upscaling DVDs, Toshiba A2, A30, or PS3

I only have an A1 and PS3. The A1 is rather drastically better at upscaling. And coincidentally enough, I did most of those tests with the Sopranos dvds.

I would reckon the A2 or A30 is equal or better than the A1. My money would be on the A30.

Never had an A30. I'd say the PS3 is slightly better than the A2 and slightly worse than the A1...

I don't have the A30. But the PS3 is better then the A2. I would imagine the A30 is roughly the same as the A2.

The A1 is better because it has a much better chip for upscaling. But since you didn't list it I was just mentioning this since it was bought up by other posters.

Another vote for the PS3 over the A2. Don't have the A30 though...

Does the A30 have the Anchor Bay chip? If so, this would probably show an improvement over the PS3.

I'm not huge on upscaling, but the PS3 seems to be a better DVD player (better deinterlacer) to my eyes than the A2. Both are set at 1080i on my display.

Well, just to add to the confusion..... we watched the first half of Inland Empire on the A2 and then finished it the other night using the PS3 just because it was already on from earlier gaming use. I felt the PQ was better coming from the Toshy A2 than the PS3. Now, this movie was shot with what is essentially a home video camera and David Lynch uses some interesting shots so it may not be the best test disc.

But, from my very small sampling I would use my A2 to watch SD discs before the PS3. Some of that might be because the PS3 does enough "work" for us so it gets a "breather" or a "day off" on SD movie night.

I wonder how the PS3 compares to the A20? I'll find out soon enough, I suppose...

what about something with the Reon chip?? (I.e. XA2)

A30 should be better than both, don't have one so I can't say. I do have an A2 and a PS3 and find the A2 does a better job.

I find my PS3 to be better than my A35. However my POS samsung 1200 is better than both by far.
