Yamaha RX-N600 Upscaling ?

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter
Does anyone know if the rx-n600 upscales? Its advertised as Hd compatable with:

3 HDTV compatible component video inputs
Component Video Up Conversion
S-Video Up Conversion

By upscaling I mean

component 480i -> component 480P, 720p or 1080i

svideo 480i -> component 480p,720p,1080i

The Onkyo 605 does not advertise upscaling either although from what I heave read it does just that.

Im a bit new at all this so if this is a lame question I apologise.

Component video up, yes. Scaling, apparently not.

If your TV is LCD, Plasma or DLP it already has a scaler. Odds are good that AVRs in your apparent price range aren't going to make an appreciable difference.

If your DVD player features a scaler, by all means use that.

As for cable, your run of the mill AVR scaler isn't going to help bad cable look good.

Just to give you a bit of personal experience, my AVR scaler made zero difference, so I leave it off.
