Samsung DVD player will not upconvert through DVI-HDMI cable

Thread Starter
I picked a Samsung upconverting DVD player and connected it to my 60' Philips 480p/1080i tv via the DVI-HDMI cable since the tv does not have a HDMI input. The issue is the DVD player will not upconvert to 1080i. I have tried switching to 1080i through the DVD menus and it stays at 480p. My Motorola cable box receiver displays at 1080i with the DVI/HDMI cable. Any ideas or solutions to get the DVD player to upconvert to 1080i?

Thanks

Do you know if the DVI port on your TV has HDCP? An HDMI source requires that.

But if your cable box is working, I would expect the dvd player to work also.

HDMI "knows" when it is connected to a DVI device and is supposed to do the right thing, but bugs are possible in the implementation. I would start searching for user reports on the player.
