A30 odd issue

I have been having problems with my HD-DVD player as has been discussed here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...1#post12508008

After waiting for a call-back from Toshiba's customer service, I decided to try my player again. I selected the apropriate input on my receiver and turned the unit on and was surprised to find that it loaded up and worked. I proceeded to try it again tonight with the same successful results.

My question is this; was my player not loading up because I didn't have the proper input selected on my receiver? I hope it doesn't sound like a dumb question, but does it have to see a successful "handshake" between HDMI devices to fully boot up? It's connected via HDMI out to the HDMI switching on my Harman Kardon AVR-645 receiver.

Should be an easy issue to try to recreate if you think it's a handshake issue. Does the player just not start or does it not display video via HDMI?

It does not finish the boot up process. It indefinitely shows "welcome" on the front display. I thought about trying it again without the receiver on the right input, but didn't want it to stop working again. I much prefer it to my roomate's Xbox Hd-dvd player.

I doubt its a handshake issue if it won't load because that's an internal function of the player, not an output type thing if you get my meaning.

I'm not sure why you created a new thread for this, but I'll try to help. Have you tried connecting directly to your tv yet or tried component cables? Is this your first attempted use of it?

I have an A30 and the welcome never takes more than about 30 seconds. If all else fails you should return to the place were you bought it and replace it.

Have you heard back from Toshiba yet?

The purpose of the other thread was to find out if anyone else had run into this problem before. This thread was to find out if input selection is to blame.

This unit is a warranty replacement from Toshiba. The original player, an A20, was purchased 2 months prior at Circuit City, well after their return policy.

Not yet. I called them on Tuesday and they said I would get a call back in 24 hours. I'm going to try to call them tomorrow and see if they are open. They never responded to the e-mail I sent them early last week either.
