I have a Pioneer DVR-550HX DVD recorder with built in hard disk and I'm in the UK. Everything I've tried so far works except for the EPG (Electronic Program Guide). I have the unit set to GUIDE Plus+. The are two ariel inputs one labelled digital and the other analogue and my ariel is connected to the digital input (so I can receive freeview) and nothing is plugged in to the analogue ariel input. I also have NTL TV and the NTL box is connected to the DVD recorder via SCART. Lastly, my tv is connected to the DVD recorder via HDMI cable.
When I press GUIDE, it now shows the channels down the left but no program info and a WARNING is displayed at the top which says "Your Guide+ system has not received tv listings. Check your host channel settings in 'setup' and 'editor' and keep your recorder in standby when not is use". I've been in standby for 5 days and sometimes I see EPG in the front panel display when the unit is in standby but no program info.
My basic Guide+ settings shows:

country: United Kingdom
postal code: LS22
external receivers 1 - 3 are all NONE.
The host channel setup (which I left on automatic) now says:
AV2/L1 (I think this is my what my NTL box is plugged in to)
program number: ----
host channel name: ESPRT
The manual says guide info is sent on ITV and Eurosport (for sky) and I can set a specific channel number of the host channel but setting to 33 for EuroSport did not seem to help.
Any ideas? It is a real pain to record stuff without the EPG - you have to press loads of buttons to set the date/time/channel etc whereas with EPG it is one press record.
