Building the theater - some advices needed

Hello. I'm about to embark on a home renovation project and transform one of my bedrooms and my previous office area into a dedicated home theater + home office as one

I am looking for some advices in building as well as selection of projector screen and projector.

I am sorry, I posted this in projectors to because I thought I would get some helpful advices about selection, but I would like to hear some veterans here in building home theaters to help me out with some advices converting below area to dedicated home theater. Anything you might see or have ideas I would really like to hear.

Let me first introduce you to a project. Shots of the converting loft area space:

Current loft area - plans for seating + pre-room merge:

Photoshopped loft area - with room merge - the room through the wall is my new office from one of the bedrooms

Also, frontal shot showing the spacing:

Now for the intended equipment:

I was thinking of getting

- Onkyo receiver 605 or 805 one
- I have 6+1 Klipsch Synergy speaker setup w/ 12" sub
- I have HD-A20, PS3
- Furniture needs to be bought.. I'm thinking regular sofas with nice leather with ottomans upfront and nice retractable coffe tables (don't ask, there's plenty of choices for this)
- Projector Optoma H80 or Panasonic A2000U 1080p
- Screen: Elite ezFrame 106" fixed or Da-Lite Perm-Wall 110" with high-power (i'm just afraid that 30 angle won't do here.. I think optimal viewing angle I have here is around 35 degrees), but I would really like to hear people's opinions about Optoma GrayWolf II 106". Per THX recommended settings my setup for first and second rows at 106-110" screens is absolutely perfect.

Now, I would really need some help picking screens and projector. I just want to get something really nice so I don't have to change stuff soon.. I'm thinking first choice Optoma H80 + Elite ezFrame 106", though Panasonic A2000 has some good reviews, 16000:1 and it has 3 HDMI inputs. I see it's quite adjustible, but I'm thinking that Optoma even though it has very limited adjustments will fit PERFECTLY in my new home theater setup. The distance is just right, the height, the ac blows directly on the projector so the heating of the projectors will be lowered.

I'd also ask for advice on how much I would ideally have to lift the second row for optimum viewing. Some advices here are appreciated.

The idea is to merge visually my office in that other room and the home theater so I can jump for a game of Xbox 360 or PS3 or drop a hi-def movie or even watch some movies on hi-def channels (LOTR comes to mind or some football )

Oh the budget for the projector is up to $3k and screen around $600-$700. I wouldn't go much over that. Full budget for transformation with furniture is between $5-$6k. I would like not to go really over that.

Thanks a lot of your help.

A couple of words to help you get started.

1. Screen size: I have 11' between the first row & screen and a 106" screen. Many people here want the biggest screen possible. (We are mostly guys after all ) However, several people feel that my screen is too big and prefer to watch from the back row. Most of these people have glasses and find motion on the screen to be disturbing. Personally, I think 106" is just right.

2: Screen type: This depends a lot on your projector and how well you control light. I have an RS-1 in a totally dark room. I ordered screen material samples from many manufactures to compare. I wanted white but was worried about the screen washing out on football games when the lights were up. I was very happy to see that white worked great if the projector puts out enough light. I got the brilliant white screen from Carada which costs about 1/3 what the Steward ST130 screen does.

3. Projector: Your budget and light control rule here as does your personal preference. Building your theater will take time so use some of it to your advantage and read www.projectorcentral.com. After you read enough reviews, you will start to get an idea of which projector works for you.

Hope this helps.

My suggestion is that you do a LOT of reading here on the various forums that apply. there is a ton to learn here before you buy anything. It will save you a lot of money and trouble in the long run.
