Hey Folks,

New to the forums.... i'm searching for a place online in canada to buy an Onkyo 605..

Specifically i'm in Ontario (Toronto Area) but i'll take any place online within Canada that posts pricing.

Thanks!!

Dave

(p.s. while i'm asking.... i'm hunting for a place which sells PSB speakers as well online)

You can try digitalsmarthomes.com. They are nationwide but are headquartered in Vancouver. They have an online catalog in the bottom right corner of the home page. If you want the 605 they have it for 699.00 but you may want to call to discuss it.

www.electronicsforless.ca

Also, although they do not sell it on their website, most London Drug Stores carry this receiver.

You can buy psb speakers from www.gramophone.ca

However, they are located in Edmonton, AB and I think you are just better off buying locally.

I have an idea... open the Yellow Pages and start dialing. There are many dealers in the GTA/Hamilton area.

Thanks guys for the comments so far...

Filthy... I can easily find a couple places.. and I had on my own... what I was looking for is a recommendation .... feedback on a place someone has already used successfully.

And I have checked 2001 audio buy their pricing was crazy.

Thanks again!

Dave

There's a store just east of the Markville Town Centre that only sells Onkyo. I forget the name of it, but it is on Highway 7, east of McCowan on the north side.

HDTV Electronics?

That could be it. Any good? Don't go inside unless you are settled on buying Onkyo.

Top Choice Electronics at Weston and HWY 7 are Onkyo dealers. Their prices are also better than 2001.

Audio Empire @ Albion Road and Islington.

Highly recommended! They are one of the biggest Onkyo/Integra dealers in Toronto and offer great prices. I purchased my Integra DTC-9.8 pre-processor there as well as my Toshiba XA-2 HD DVD player.

Thanks for all the choices folks... fyi when I called Audio Empire.. the guy was fantastic on the phone.. very helpful.. and even though I could hear plenty of people in the background.. he didn't rush me at all and even shared a laugh.. unlike a couple other places I called which seemed absolutely put out by my 1 minute call....

I'm from Edmonton, AB. I am looking to get an Onkyo 905, but they are few and far between. In discussions with the mentioned dealers in this thread, has anyone had good luck with any of them in the way of pricing and availability of Onkyo products?

Advice to anyone buying the Onkyo 605. It is not a very powerful receiver. If your speakers are demanding then move up to the 705. You cannot add an amplifier to the 605 to take away stress.

I'll second Audio Empire... I just called to check on prices and stock, and he was EXTREMELY friendly and nice, despite how busy it sounded in his store. Haven't bought anything yet, but I have faith the service level will continue.

If you:
A) are close to the border
B) have a friend in the USA
buy it in the USA and have your friend register it.

If you are not averse to mail ordering from the US, I'd suggest getting it that way. About six months ago, I wanted to buy an Onkyo integrated amp. I tried to get it locally but the listed price in Canada was C$999 (the store said they would knock off C$50). The same unit sold for about half that amount by mail order from the US. The choice was easy for me. I mail-ordered it, got it in three days, and paid about C$90 in shipping and C$70 in GST and PST. Generally, I've found Onkyo prices in Canada to be extorting.

There are a few mail-order places that you can get Onkyo products from. I got mine from B&H Photo. Although their main line of business is cameras, they also carry lots of home-entertainment electronics. You can google them up. I'm not related to them in any way - just a satisfied customer.

When you live in Canada you buy Anthem.

I'm also interested in the Integra 9.8. What are the approximate delivery times that the dealers are quoting now?

Thanks in advance.

I'm from Edmonton as well. Visions does carry Onkyo but I don't think they have the 905.

I came across this thread as I am trying to help my sister source an inexpensive system to go with her new plasma. I suggested the Onkyo SR606 and HT240 speaker system which in the US is <$700 delivered from authorized dealers. She is seeing pricing closer to $1200 ($1150 before tax), including A E mentioned above. We would like to buy from an authorized Canadian dealer to keep warranty (and better yet, local to Toronto since web pricing in Canada does not seem to buy you the same discount that it does here and a local pickup would be ideal).

If anyone has an idea for us to try beyond what is mentioned in this thread, I would appreciate the reference.

We had the same problem with plasma's, the premium to buy in Canada seems huge to me (much less selection, MUCH higher prices, even without considering tax).

electronicsforless.ca

They have the 606 on slae for $499 and the 706 (floor model) on sale for $770.

Good Luck

You could also try HD TV & Electronics in Scarborough at 325 Bamburgh Circle, the closest main intersection is Warden and Steeles.

They seem to have good prices; I looked around everywhere when I bought my 876 and they were the cheapest by far and yes they are an authorized dealer.
