got my elite from buy.com for 419. box says 203 w but brick says 175 max, was a go big bundle. runs cooler and softer. hdmi is great to have. is there a way to check the drive?

in my experience, a google search is much quicker than posting a new thread and waiting for a reply, not to sound like a d*ck or anything though.

my benq's defective, it spins and grinds and makes noise so loud you can hear it through the whole house! sounds like it's scratching the disc but its not. Taking back to sams club after january when the crowds die down
post #6 of 21
Your going to wait until after january? Man i would do it as soon as possible, i couldn't stand noise coming from my console.

Wow I cant believe mine is a benq aren't those supposed to be better? My drive is way louder than the hitachi one I had before wtf.

Really?! Thats depressing.
My Hitachi is so loud.
If I wake up early on a Saturday, I keep the volume on the receiver low, as not to wake the wife, and the spinning noise drowns out the in-game audio.

I dont want to chance trading or upgrading though, because my unit runs cool to the touch after hours of gameplay, and I'd hate to mess with that.

Yeah. Its a shame there so loud. My solution was to crack it open and mod the driive speed to 8x. But some people treasure there warrantys. Haha, I've opened more then 12 working xbox 360s to do verious cosmetic and cooling mods. I personally don't worry about warrantys. Only one of the 12 broke. 3 red rings of light.

I have the benq drive and it is way louder than the one I had b4. But my new 360 runs so much cooler. noise vs heat?
The heat should just be due to overall better design. The noise is from the drive. The fans in the 360 at this point are pretty quiet.

Revolt - More 8x mod info! Gimme links! Thanks.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot... The rubber feet on the 360 are really thin. I found that when I put 3/4" soft rubber feet on the bottom of the 360, it dropped in noise a bit. The vibrations from the drive no longer transfered to the surface that the 360 is on, removing the noise amplification that resulted.

Can't really give you links man. I didn't do the mod. I had it done. I can get you in contact with the guy if you want. Just pm me.

Also, You can take hobby foam, and stick a sheet under your 360 to lower vibration noise. Its cheap at hobby shops.

You should be careful with this. There are reports of people who have gotten banned from XBL for 12v modding their fans (no firmware hacks at all).

"Thats impossible. There is no way for xbox live to detect a simple fan mod" (Quoted from Revolt before he deleted the post)

That's unpossible! Wait. No it's not. It is a very simple activity for a BIOS to do a check if a fan is hooked up to the proper header, and additionally if the rotation speed is as expected for the supplied voltage. We've been able to check these very simple things for at least a decade on the PC side. Why would you think that it is impossible to use this 10 year old technology in the 360?
Well. I'm not worried about it. I don't play on xbox live. And i wonder where you read all that?

"And i wonder where you read all that?"

Right! Because I would have to read it on the internet in order to figure out that simple logical jump! Past experience would have nothing to do with it...

Oh wait, I've never read that article. Nor did I state that you would get banned for a fan mod. I was mearly pointing out the ease of detection possible.

With 12(), whats the point in worrying about a warranty? If one breaks, just buy a new one if you really need 12 (), or use one of the 11 remaining
post #21 of 21
Okay. Not trying to down you or anything. Yet you seem to be very defensive on the subject. I know of nobody that has been modded for a simple fan mod. Plus the fact that i do not use xbox live.

And to moto - I sell the ones i mod, i don't keep them. The mods are things such as paint jobs, leds, cooling, windows. I usually sell them on ebay. I'm actually in the process of modding my mac apple xbox 360.
