Can't get DD via HDMI on my 3808CI??

I just got my Denon 3808CI and absolutely LOVE it, except for one MAJOR problem!!

I currently have my HD DVD player (Tosh HD-A30) and my PS3 hooked up via HDMI to the receiver. I get audio out just fine, but it won't output Dolby Digital at all!! The front panel indicates "MULTI CH IN". When I hit the STANDARD button on the front panel, it doesn't switch over to DD either.

I'm guessing there's a setting that I'm missing somewhere, but I'm at my wits end trying to find it!

Can anyone help me to understand what "secret" setting there is that I'm missing here?

(I have double-checked both my DVD player and my PS3 to ensure that they are supposed to be 'spitting out' DD as well, so I'm guessing the problem is on the receiver side of things)

Thanks very much for any guidance/insights...

The A30 may be decoding Dolby Digital, and sending it via MPCM, in which case you would not see an indicator for Dolby Digital.

If that's the case, there's probably no cause for concern

The only downside would be if you had a 6.1 or 7.1 setup, and you were playing a movie with a rear surround channel (e.g. Dolby EX,) and your receiver could not dematrix the rear surround channel from MPCM

I don't own the A30 or your receiver so I can't explain all your options

You should have Digital Out HDMI=Auto on your A3. Play a standard DVD, not an HD-DVD. Doesn't that give you DD?

On your PS3, if you really want bitstream, you should have

BD / DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI)=Bitstream

I don't recommend you do this. You should leave it on PCM and use the multi ch mode on your receiver.

But on the HD A-35 Toshiba player on the remote their is a display button if you hit that twice it will go up on your monitor-maybe that will tell you what signal you are getting. DD+,True HD etc....it works with my HD 35 and Denon 3808ci receiver.
