I have an older rear projection Samsung 61 inch DLP in my family room that we use for everyday viewing. I know the TV does 720p, pretty sure it does 1080i, and know that it doesn't do 1080p.
Today I have a HD DirecTivo, an Xbox, and a Wii attached to it. I'm going to be adding an HR20 (HD DirecTv DVR) to it as well.
Here is my challenge. The TV has many Component inputs and a single DVI input. I have the HDDirecTivo, Xbox and Wii connecting to the TV directly for video. The Xbox connects to an older Onkyo HTIB receiver via optical, the HDDirecTivo uses digital and the Wii directly to the TV for sound.
I have a real home theater in the basement (sony black pearl, denon 3808i, etc. etc.) so I don't need a mack-daddy rig.
I'm looking for a receiver that does the basics but can help me with the cable and WAF mess by being a central switcher for all of these pieces. But the challenge is since the TV doesn't accept HDMI, I'm guessing I'll have to output a single component line to the TV regardless of how it's coming into the receiver (HDMI, Component, etc.). However, I'd like the receiver to have Hdmi switching so that when i do replace the TV I don't have to buy another receiver.
I have basic cheap speakers from the existing HTIB onkyo and only have a 5.1 setup - which is more than enough for what we need.
Any suggestions on which receiver(s) to look at? Also, is it possible to take in HDMI to a receiver and switch and output component?
Thanks and let me know if I'm missing something here.
