newly installed xmas games! orangebox, cod4, gears, quakewars...

I've played just a bit of each.

I find myself drawn to Portal the most. Which makes me think I'm getting tired of FPS and maybe I should be buying puzzle games for myself or something.

Quake Wars I played for about 5 minutes and am thinking I want to uninstall it already. God it's ugly. Just watching players run around the map is unpleasant.

Gears of War I played a bit, could be fun.

Team Fortress 2 looks interesting. The Valve software is unvelievable in terms of smoothness and clean running software.

Call of Duty 4 I will play some. Hard to say how much. I've played COD, COD 2, and COD 2 United Offensive quite a bit in the past. All multi-player, hardly any single player. Somehow I find myself missing the gamplay of the earlier COD's though. Not sure why. I think they had a better feel.

All in all, I think I should have some fun gaming if I can get into it. But if I decide to spend some time gaming, I might be hard pressed to rationalize not going back and just playing some Battlefield 2142.

Finally I decided not to pull the trigger on Crysis after playing the demo. I think it was a good choice. But Quake Wars... man... I'd take Crysis over that one right now.

Wow, you got quite the xmas haul this year.

Now that we have 1080p TVs, it is definately giving games a whole new feel.

Portal - great fun for a couple hours (took my time even), and gave yet another FPS game a fresh new feel. I don't care for the "can I do it one second faster" type games, so this one is on the backburner for me. I don't like the controls on most puzzle games. I haven't checked into them in a few years though.

Quake Wars - can't comment haven't played it

Gears of War - graphics are nice, but controls were horrible. The camera view needs a severe overhaul. It gave me a headache when trying to sprint.

Team Fortress 2 - played about 60 hours so far, about to give up. I agree they did a good job on graphics and hardware requirements. It is a fun game, but has become near unplayable for me because of four things. 1. Two classes unbalance the game - the spy and demoman. 2. The hitbox, which is the area you have to aim at to score a hit, is sorely inaccurate. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why I had such a hard time scoring hits until a coworker showed me. This is very frustrating I catch myself yelling at the tv sometimes (lol) 3. I prefer coop play, but the classes require each person to play their part well. All it takes is one or two people to be a bad player or afk and you lose every time. 4. Poor map design. Overall they are great, but most of them have a capture point right next to the spawn. Because of this, a spawn timer is required - 20 seconds in most cases. Easy fix would be to make some distance between the spawn and the first cp. I hate waiting to play. I keep waiting for the "game over, insert quarters" screen to pop up. The "killcam" also gives away your location when you kill somebody. grr. It also gives away enemy spies which is stupid.

Call of Duty 4 - awesome, graphics and gameplay rock. I enjoyed the first two, but never played on the internet. Haven't tried to network it yet. Play some CoD2 at our lan parties and it's a lot of fun, but the grenade indicator makes them easy to avoid.

Battlefield 2142 - can't comment, never played it except for about 5 minutes at a store display

Crysis - finished it last week and really liked most of it. If you have descent hardware (8800GT or above) it is uber eye candy and will only get better as faster hardware comes out. The gameplay was great for about the first 2/3 of the game. Once I started fighting the aliens I was quickly losing interest, not sure why.
