I have no idea how to describe this, but here goes...

Anyway, most movies have a certain effect that makes them look like just that: movies. Professionally shot movies. Now, I just saw a movie that doesn't have that "effect". I can't describe it, the only way I can try to is by saying that it looks like a home video in terms of video quality. Does anybody know what effect I am talking about? Miami Vice was an offender, lacking this effect in many places. The Flood is without this effect during the entire movie. What is it called?

I'd say film-like versus video-like. Movies look like they do because they are shot of film negative. Video looks like it does because it is not (it is shot on a standard home video camera with no large "film reel"). So I guess you would call the "movie-look" film-like or the film look or whatever.

Now there are also movies like Star Wars Ep III that were shot with a third choice the newish all-digital HD camera. Same goes for 3D animation done on the computer entirely.

It's the frame-rate.
The "film effect" is because the frame rate is 24 fps (Cinema standard), if you watch a film with "MotionFlow", "100Hz", etc... the "film effect" disappeare.
