Official WWE in HD topic! - Page 5

taken from wrestlezone.com

"With WWE's production studios switching over to high-definition, we've received word that the company will soon be releasing DVDs of those events in the Blu-Ray high-definition format. We'll see if it actually happens."

I know the WWE shows on USA, which is a universal company...not sure if universal is HD or blu-ray. If they are blu-ray then its pretty much a given that the WWE will be BLU

Universal is HD-DVD but they don't disturbute the dvds Weinstein does and they are Blu-Ray.

I just wanted to whine once more about the fact that Dish STILL doesn't have USA in HD. Three days from the first Raw in HD, and I can't watch it.

Great.

I saw some WWE HD footage today and the picture quality was excellent.

Great.

Same thing here on Cablevision in NJ. Of course we have CW-HD and Smackdown is going HD as well this week, but frankly who cares about the "second fiddle" show? Smackdown and ECW are like the minor leagues to RAW.

Come on Cablevision, get us USA-HD already!

That's awesome.. but remember it is WWE, and they have the best production team in the tv business. They do a fantastic job.

WWE has posted a new article on their website about the move to HD.

This weekend, at an empty arena in an undisclosed location of the southern United States, WWE's television production crew is undergoing a high-definition (HD) boot camp.

The crew is putting the final touches on incredibly vibrant, high-definition versions of Raw, ECW and SmackDown, including the assembly of a revolutionary entrance set that will be used for all three brands.

WWE HD

I did find something interesting in the article. It seems like everyone will be using the same set, but with minor adjustments that give each a distinctive look?

BTW does anyone like the WWE HD logo?
Awesome! I didn't realize there were wrestling fans here on this forum, very cool.
I am really looking forward to Raw in HD on Monday.I for one agree with many of you in saying that the WWE production team is truly one of the best for LIVE television. They put a lot of the production teams of MAJOR live productions to shame.
I'm foutunate enough that I will be able to see RAW,SMACKDOWN and ECW in HD courtesy of Directv.
I'm still on the fence of whether or not I'll order the RR in HD PPV due to the $50 price tag.And you know that WM 24will be at least $59.95,so I may just wait for that...but who knows.
Can we keep this thread as our wrestling discussion thread or should we start a new one?

That logo is terrible. It's too long. Why not just add an HD to the existing logo?

i was going to order the RR in HD to see what the WWE is like in HD but now since im going to get all 3 shows in HD now starting this week, ill bypass the RR.....I will however order WM 24 bc that is always a great show HD or no but HD will make WM 24 even better
post #132 of 572
Just a small qualification: The HD that I saw was not through the the full path that will get to the home but rather the production itself. But I can say from what I saw that it starts out with a high quality image. WWE is using high bitrate distribution to NBC (Raw/ECW) and CBS (Smackdown).

I think we should start a new thread dedicated to WWE HD programming... I think there are many wrestling fans on this forum. And some will watch just for the picture quality... For 5 hours per week throughout the year we will have wrestling in HD... hell this can be your excuse to get a personal loan, and get that HDTV set

I do agree that WWE's production team puts the major ones to shame... they do a FANTASTIC job, and are really good at what they do.

I hope this wont suffer from the same issues that the NFL was experiencing.

More exciting news about WWE's HD launch.

Quote:

Mike Grossman, WWE's Senior Vice President for Television Operations, will be watching every moment of WWE’s week-long debut in high-definition with anticipation – and some nervousness. Those new HD cameras cost a pretty penny, and if, say, WWE Champion Randy Orton grabs one to clock Jeff Hardy with a high-def cranium shot, Grossman might just grit his teeth a little as the high-tech device gets swung.

“That could be a problem,” Grossman replied with a cautious chuckle. “Let’s hope not.”

WWE’s switch to HD required a complete renovation of WWE's production equipment, from the cameras and microphones at ringside to the production truck parked out back. It also necessitated re-creating WWE's production processes from the standard-definition age.

"We went from doing the show the same way for a number of years, in the same truck, to having to reinvent everything," said Duncan Leslie, WWE Vice-President, Technical Events Operations. "All the infrastructure had to change. It's sort of like going from black & white to color."

Such a radical transformation meant not only new HD video cameras, but more powerful and colorful lighting elements. The result? A view of WWE that, until now, you could only get live in the arena, in a front-row seat – a view that has technical crews extremely aware of the tiniest elements.

"There's nowhere to hide," Leslie explained. "Every T-shirt in the audience can be read. Every bead of sweat, every scratch on the canvas is seen. What you see through the HD lens, you'd see with your eyes live."

The crowning jewels of the high-definition renovation are two new state-of-the-art production trucks. WWE worked with NEP Supershooters of Pittsburgh, Pa., to design and build the trucks that replaced the standard-definition vehicle, and will lease a custom truck designed for HD transmission.

Leslie said the new trucks feature miles of cable and more than 100,000 buttons, as well as a massive monitor wall to display the numerous camera feeds. "We're a sporting event, we're a concert” he said. “What we make these trucks do is totally unique [in the industry]."

"Reset" for the set and more

Say goodbye to the iconic Raw TitanTron, as well as the SmackDown fist and mirrors. They’ve seen their last television tapings.

To take full advantage of the high-definition platform, a radically redesigned entrance set will be shared by all three of WWE's signature shows. Exact details regarding the set will remain top-secret until Raw’s is unveiled Monday night. However, a shoot in Florida last November brought all the Superstars together to record the new show openings in HD. Additionally, new intros and graphics for Raw, SmackDown, ECW and pay-per-view events are rumored to feature some 3-D elements.

"There will be several video elements that will be pretty slick,” Grossman asserted. "It will be a whole new show. It's going to be spectacular."

I'm really bumming Cox does not carry USA-HD or SCIFI-HD. I love RAW and can't see it in HD!

If Cox doesn't come through soon i might have to consider going back to Directv....

Does anyone know why they will use the same set(I know that it will be customize to fit each brands look) for every brand?? I was wondering what would prompt them to do that?? To save money and time or what. Is this set so advanced that you wouldn't need three different sets.. maybe?? Inside scoop anyone??

All valid questions Kizzo, other than what's been released, the WWE is being pretty secretive over this. So we're gonna have to see it for ourselves this next week. I don't know what to expect to be honest with ya.

I will watch RAW for the first time since middle school i think

Does anyone else agree with starting a dedicated WWE HD thread? I'm down for it as I think all of us wrestling fans need to stick together.
I also read that SPIKE TV is pushing for TNA to switch to HD,which in theory wouldn't be as complicated as what WWE went thru,as TNA is shot at UNIVERSAL STUDIOS Florida on the same stage week in and week out.And more than likely the studio and facilities are already HD ready. However TNA would have to really up the production values for the switch.
Back to WWE,it seems like they have some potentially good matches set for Monday's RAW.Not sure what they have planned for ECW and SMACKDOWN-except for ahem,The Great Khali vs. Finlay in a Belfast Brawl.
But either way,I'm very pumped to set the new set and graphics.......and DIVAS,especially Mickie James

I wish they'd simulcast it on Universal HD since I have that but don't have USAHD or Sci-Fi HD.

I mean, it makes sense to me since Universal hardly shows anything good on that channel.

- That's blasphemy. How are people going to get their needed dose of Skulls III if WWE starts appearing on Universal?

I for one am bummed about the TitanTron going the way of the Dodo. Although I am intrigued about what this new omni-set is going to look like. Probably will make things easier for the production crews when they have supershows.

P.S. I hate the logo. It's too generic.
I hate Dish Network. I'd hoped they'd get off their butts and get USA-HD going in time for the big WWE HD debut, but no such luck. Not even an estimate from them on when this is going to happen.

I hate you, Dish Network!

I think that's the main benefit of having just one massive set that is customizable.. much easier to deal with, and also the supershows will be easier for the production team. I also think the production team put alot of thought into doing this, and may think this is the best solution for switching to HD.

I love and hate the logo.. I'm glad they atleast changed it for HD, but I also think its too generic.
