Did I miss hear that or did the ad say "starting with RAW"?

That would indicate to me that all outlets will be going HD very quickly.

Yes, it did say, "in two weeks, starting with Raw". I wouldn't be surprised if they start the other shows (SD!, ECW, etc.) in HD soon after that.

I think the WWE in HD is going to be awesome, thats always been the one thing missing for me when watching the WWE. I mean with all the bright lights, fireworks, pyro, i think its a great match (non pun intended) WWE and HD, its about time
post #66 of 572
macroblock city on the pyro and lights but otherwise it should work well for WWE.
cool..... I'll tune in just to see if they can pull off a top-notch HD production .

I'm not much of a wrestling fan anymore.

I was at Raw live last night and they announced they were going HD in two weeks. They have been testing recording in HD for some time now.

Too bad i wont be able to see it as COX does not carry USA-HD. Come on COX, time for a couple more channels to be added!!!!

^ thats the same company that does cable at the location where that RAW IS GOING TO BE SHOT.
HAMPTON ROADS, VA only D* mpeg-4 subs IN HAMPTON ROADS will be able to watch the event in HD..!

The same commercial just aired on ECW, put instead of mentioning raw, they said ECW was in HD in 2 weeks. Comcast is getting annoying, we have USA HD & CW HD, but no Sci-Fi HD yet.

GOOD NEWS... I GUESS SD! IS NEXT
dumb question but does anyone know what format (HD-DVD or BD) the HD version of the Rumble will be released on since I assume they will release it on a disc at some point..
I would assume Blu Ray considering it's basically the front-runner in the HD format war. The only reason they would release HD-DVD's at this point is if they have some sort of distribution deal with a company that supports HDDVD exclusively.

My only thing with the WWE in HD is having to see Ric Flair in HD. Good thing is however that his last match is mostly likely going to be at Wrestlemania 24

I don't follow that closely anymore, but we've thought that many, many times

well he is currently in a storyline where if he loses he must retire...so the end is near for Flair

Hasn't he had like 10 of those stories, only to come back as a show GM or valet and then get involved again?
Flair is getting close to 60 years old so i say it a good be that he really retires! I'm sure he will continue to work behind the scenes in some capacity and make occasional appearances on tv. Some guys just never seem to go away for good...

He's not Terry Funk. The talk behind the scenes is that Flair is ready to make his WM match his retirement match. The contract issues last year were over the fact the WWE was doing nothing with him and wanted a story into WM and his last match.

Agreed. Retirement from active wrestling may keep a person out of the current spotlight, but the fans will always welcome them.

Remember RAW's 15th Anniversary show recently? Both Mick Foley (in his Mankind personna) and Stone Cold Steve Austin showed up to "surprise" Vince McMahon. Neither has been (really) active for years, but both got huge pops. I was disappointed that "The Rock" (Dwayne Johnson) didn't show up - I guess he has decided to distance himself from his WWF/WWE personna.

So I guess I'll only be able to watch Smackdown in HD, since Comcast doesn't carry USA HD or SCI-FI HD in my area. Major bummer, since I really want to see RAW and ECW in HD.

I think the only way for someone to "retire" is for them to die. I thought Shawn Michaels was never going to wrestle again.

I Happened to run across a production guys blog that works for the wwe. So i emailed him about the shows if they will be broadcasted in 5.1 surround sound heres the response. I also asked him if he could confirm if the Smackdown edition on 1/25 will be in HD.I Will post that response in a bit once he gets back to me i didn't think of asking him that on the original email.

Production Guys Response:
The plan as of now is for the WWE to remain in stereo when the HD ‘switch’ happens in a few weeks. The reason for this is we want to make sure that everyone, from the USA head end, to the satellite and cable providers, to the studio, to the many international markets can support 5.1 Dolby.

Our new truck is ready to broadcast in 5.1, and as soon as they tell us, we’re ready and anxious to go. Rest assured we want to make the switch!

Update:
I am not sure when the CW HD conversion will happen. To be honest with you, they don’t really tell us crew members much either!
I know the Royal Rumble will be presented in HD, and I know that in two weeks (Hampton and we are getting a new set for the RAW and ECW HD launch. Beyond that, I really don’t know, but I will ask at work next week and let you know what the plans are for Smackdown HD. If I find out anything, I will let you know.

It was advertised tonight that SD! will also begin broadcasting in HD starting in two weeks (01/25?) (That makes it Raw-Monday-USAHD-01/21, ECW-Tuesday-SCIFIHD-01/22, and SD!-Friday-CWHD-01/25)
^yea i saw that!!! all wwe programing in HD!!!

i'm excited!!
I've been reading on some wrestling sites.. that all 3 brands will be getting new sets at the end of the month?? Does anyone know anything about this?

Also can someone please tell me why the RAW picture quality sucked this week?
The quote above from the WWE production crew member said there appears to be new sets coming. Not sure how/why anyone else here would have more info on that.
Since I don't get USA, Sci-Fi or CW in HD I guess I am screwed.
