ReplayTV 5XXX Reboot Troubleshooting Checklist

Thread Starter
There has been a great deal of forum activity on this subject recently, but, IMO, specific details of each individual user's situation are not being presented.

Listed below are the reasons that I am currently aware of for a ReplayTV 5XXX to reboot. We don't have an entry for this in the FAQ, so, with this 'flurry' of activity (more hands make light work), I'd like to try to compile a proper 'Troubleshooting Checklist'.

Please reply if:
  • You have another reason / checklist item to add.
  • You have a correction for an existing reason / checklist item.
  • You're aware of a LINK in the AVS Archives discussing an item already on this list in detail.

This is a "Work-in-Progress" Document!
  • RTV CPU Over-Utilization (Watchdog Timer activated):
    • Downloading to DVArchive/WiRNS at too high a rate
    • Simultaneously downloading and/or uploading and/or streaming
    • .
  • RTV Memory Over-Utilization:
    • Too many shows (over ~150)
    • Too many channels
    • Too little free space (less than xx%)
    • .
  • RTV OS Software Corruption:
    • Bad sector(s) on a bad hard disk
    • Bad sector(s) on a good hard disk that was copied from a bad hard disk
    • .
  • RTV Hardware Fault:
    • Power Supply:
      • Oxidized connection(s) between power supply and motherboard
      • Oxidized connection(s) between motherboard, motherboard mounting hardware and case
      • Typical ReplayTV 5XXX Power Problems - Mikeyboy
    • Overheat:
      • Dirty fan blades, blocked vents
      • ReplayTV installed above a 'heat-generating' component or in a sealed entertainment center
    • .
  • Network/LAN Problems:
    • Bad cable / NIC / router / switch
    • Remote unable to keep up:
      • Wireless streaming
      • Streaming from a DVArchive/WiRNS instance utilizing a USB drive and/or NAS
      • Streaming from a DVAarchive/WiRNS instance on a BUSY PC
  • .
PLEASE LIMIT REPLIES TO THIS THREAD TO ADDITIONAL REASONS and/or LINKS TO CURRENT REASONS!

(and I'll keep this OP updated)

Thanks!
