Decision Help and Tech ???s

First off, I was looking for some advice on what TV to get. I will be getting it from Amazon so all 3 will be under $2K. Here are my choices:

1. Samsung 50" Plasma (TH5084)
2. Samsung 46" LCD (LNT4671)
3. Panasonic 42" Plasma (TH42PZ700U)

I would like to go as big as possible since I sit around 8' away from the set, but I also don't want to spend more than I have to (so if anyone has any other suggestions on models I'm all ears). This will be a TV for my room, which can get fairly dark during the day with blinds over the only window and it will be mostly used at night.

Another question about the plasmas. Since I usually end up playing right before I go to bed, will I be able to play games like Bioshock for 2-3 hours and turn it off right away and in the morning it will be fine? If there is a little bit of IR does it need to be removed immediately or does turning the set off clear it up too?

Thanks and looking forward to all replies

I went for 5084 and I am so far happy, I do sit around 7 to 8 feet from the TV. I do not game a lot but I love to replay half-life 2 on plasma when I am done with break-in period for about 200hrs.

I would recommend running a burn-in protection programs from a DVD or from the TV itself (samsung has one) for like 15mins after you game for couple of hours. I think Pioneer has documentation that recommends watching normal content after every 2 hours of gaming. So that the IR goes away then you can turn the TV off and get back and start all over again . Make sure you run the break-in DVD for first 200 hrs and hold back on playing any games on it for long time when you first get the TV.

From all the threads I have read apart from Pioneer, Panasonic's latest models have edge over Samsung with respect to burn-in. But I could not resist the price for performance of Samsung 5084 and got it from Amazon

cheers.
