I'm on a roll today! Did you honestly think I was going to let your system and thread fade to the 2nd page of this WYSC section?! You are My Boy!
Never that! Your system should always be front and center. Your system is a perfect example of what one can do with legacy equipment and turn your system into one of the better ones on the site and one of the most admired on several sites!

And let's not forget, you have set the standard for the twin Ultra's!

Regards.

LoL Ld! I just saw this post! If I get a newer HD receiver, will my system not be such a legacy?

Have you decided on what your next upgrade will be yet?

Hello Croseiv.

If anyone knows legacy equipment, it's me! My system is the paragon of ol' skol!
I'm still waiting on my friggin' bonus! We were told that those of us that earned the bonus should receive it by mid July! Well it's the 21st and nothing!
Hopefully it will be in the next pay period which is this Friday.

Anyway, it's a toss up between a new AVR/Pre pro or a new TV. I've been doing alot of research and the pre/pro choices are very limited. As far as TV's go, I hoping to grab a Kuro Elite at a very aggressive price. If not, then either the 55" Samsung LED/LCD (UN55B6000) or one the Samsung 58" Plasmas. As far as the speakers goes, I will hold off until after August when my daughter starts school. I know want all three upgrades by the September.

Regards.

This is of the back end, showing off my new VampireWire (love the name!)running from the XPA-5 to the receiver. I also tried to organize it a bit better. It seems a little cleaner looking back there I think.

Hey Crosseiv. Your system is looking better than ever.
How about some pics of the rear of your setup?

Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, I really like mine even though it's a 720p set, at my veiwing distance it's great. Not really sure what settings you are refrring to though?

Hello Croseiv.

How are you doing guy?! Hopefully you received my PM.
It's been a rough month and a half, but I'm livin'! Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I was not able to do any upgrades of any kind. That's life.
Enough about me, any changes to the Mt. Ultra setup. You know the SVS's own the room, don't you? The rest of the equipment is just there for the ride!

In your previous post, you said had some new photos to post....well?!!!!

Only kidding, take your time.

Regards.

Yeah, I took them, but they were of poor quality, so I will re-take them and maybe post this weekend.

Glad you made it through the past month and a half okay there ld! I have actually been considering breaking up the stack and placing the subs on opposite sides if the room, just to see how it sounds, but I'll need to get another sub cable to do that. The newest addition is a Roku box for netflix streaming. It's pretty cool. You can see it in the photo several posts back.

you'll need another sub cable and a strong friend...those ultras are not easy to move. It must have taken some effort to get the top one where it currently sits.

It was actually pretty easy to get it up there. Still mulling over bustin' up the stack though as it does sound quite good that way (better than the placement would indicate).

Nothing new (yet)..

Hello My Friend!

Happy Holidays to you and the family. Another year on the forum, where does the time go?!
Anything new on the horizonfor the "simple 5.1 hoe theater"? Not that you need anything. Your system is bordering on perfection.
Have you tried unstacking the Ultras yet? And if so, did you detect any improvements or at least differences in sonic performance?

Regards,

Hi ldgibson76,

Yes, I do have an item planned as a pretty big upgrade over an older component in my set up. I'll keep it a surprise for now. As for breaking up the stack, that is still on my short list of things to do. I'll probably do it early in the new year.

Hey Croseiv.

I look forward to seeing the big upgrade!
Today I went and checked out the Marantz SR6003.

I must say it's a nice looking AVR, but it has an inexpensive feel to it. I just can't finger it. The tactile feel of it just did not invoke the level of confidence in build quality I'm used to. The SR9300 weighs 43.6 lbs. The SR6300 weighs 29.1 lbs. I know I should not let the mass determine the level of quality, but I am from the ol' skol! And I like for my components to have some heft! And even though the front panel is supposed to be reinforced, it just felt unsubstantial to me. And the two main knobs (volume and selector) just didn't have the resistance or weighted feel the old SR9300 has. Maybe I'm just spoiled!

My next audition will be with the Pioneer SC-07 tomorrow. I already know that I like AVR. And it's built like a tank.

I'll keep you posted.

Regards.

Hey Crossiv, I'm digging the black trim on your emo amp.
Out of curosity, why did you decide to get the xpa-5 and then only run it in 3 channel mode? Did you try it in five channel mode with your surrounds hooked up?

If you had always planned on using it in 3 channel i'm guessing you decided the extra money was worth it over the wpa-3 for the extra wattage.

Hi Gelinas,

For now, I'm using it in 3 ch mode. I do plan to eventually go to a 7.1 set up. I do like the black trim also. I have really been enjoying the Emo amp.

Coming soon...Pioneer SC-27 Elite as a new AVR pre/pro....I'm stoked.
gorgeous setup..

but what model are the front speaker stands? i bet you could make those pretty easily... they look like a peice of metal and a 4x4 square post...!
Hello Croseiv.

I know you must be excited about the incoming Pioneer AVR. Coincidentally, I am/was considering the the SC-07, last year's model to replace my aging Marantz combo. I really like the concept of the ICE amps. Very efficient and powerful. With all 7 channels driven, the 140 watt per channel rating is forreal! But, after doing a comparison to the SC-27, I think the 27 is the way to go. Although, the local 6th Ave, has offered me the 07 for $1099.99 and the even offered the 27 for $1599.99, both nice deals, I think the extra 500 for the 27 will be worth it. The biggest difference I see with the 27 other than the front panel HDMI input is the detachable power cord. That's huge, especially if the I decide to go with the Pioneer alone without external amplification.

Croseiv, you know if you get the Pioneer Elite AVR, you will be compelled to uprade the plasma! 1080P will be haunting you in your sleep!

Regards.

The waiting is killing me... I'm still pretty happy with the 720p set for now. I'm more eager to get the high def audio back in gear.

Yeah, I hear you talkin'! Pretty happy with the 720P huh? Wait and see! Once the shiny front panel of the Pioneer Elite SC-27 graces your component rack, and that hi-rez audio starts kickin', the last piece to the puzzle will be 1080P. It just won't feel right without it!.
