My Bluray player needs an upgrade to play HD DVD LMFAO
post #2 of 39
What would be even more funny, is if someone actually went and bought the blu-ray to try to play that in.

Warner Bros, truly format neutral.

Clearly, Warner has some Significant issues with their staff at the Production facility.

I didnt really notice mine when I threw it away, wonder if mine was wrong...

I guess I will have to open mine tonight to verify

Just checked my copy, same thing.
Does this mean I'm format neutral?

Mine too. I have seen that insert on a few of my other disks as well. I think there was one in my Harry Potter box and it said Blu as well.

Mine has it to...

At least it's only a sheet of paper. Over on the Blu-Ray side, Warner has released some sets with HD-DVD discs included in the Blu-Ray packaging...
Both the HD DVD and Blu-ray lines are done at the same place at the same time (for BD50s).
This is actually funny compared to what happened to many BR player owners that bought the deluxe Harry Potter set and found out upon inspection of their new boxed set that the discs were a mix of BR and HD-DVD versions of the Potter movies. In that instance noone was laughing, but cursing Warner instead.Thankfully all HD-DVD sets i'm aware of contained all HD-DVD copies of the movies.

My Blade Runner had the BD insert as well. Remembering the problems with HD DVDs turining up in the Blu-rau Harry Potter sets, I checked the discs to make sure that they were all HD DVD (the 2 that were supposed to be, are).

Got my copy 2 days ago. Sent in for a replacement same day as the last disc was loose and scratched. I hope to watch this, someday. Everything else seemed ok with it though, insert-wise.

I've had a couple discs with this, and I believe I've read where some BR folks have had the reverse... since it's going in the trash anyways, no harm done.

Warner must have monkeys packing their movie cases.
My box came with both the Blu-Ray and the HD-DVD notes. It's probably cheaper than hiring smarter monkeys.

Also, I was kind of surprised that disc 2 and disc 4 (the extras) are DVD discs, not HD. Did everybody get this, or mine was screwed up ?

Nope that is exactly how it was meant to be. Disc 1 Disc 3 and Disc 5 contain the 5 different versions of the movie in HD. Since the extras are all in SD and already being pressed for the DVD set it was probably more economical to put the two DVDs in then combine them and have a produce 2 additional HDM discs (one BD one HD). Specailly when taking into account how small the BD and HD runs would be in comparison to the 5 disc DVD version.

mine was incorrect also...no big deal, kind of funny

Why don't they just color-code the inserts? Or if that's too much, just throw a big fat logo on there. Or just make a generic one for both formats, that'll save time AND money.

Even better, write the insert so that one version would apply to both formats.

"Your high definition player may need a firmware upgrade" works for me.

Yeah, that's what I meant by generic. Then, no matter what happens down the road, they'll never have to worry about printing too many of the wrong kind.
