HDDVD Playback layer change pause... what to blame?

Details: HP M9000t media pc core2 2 duo 2.66, Vista Premium, 3 gig ram, LG GGW-H20L drive, 8600GT, PowerDVD Ultra.

Pauses on layer change for HDDVD media (like Transformers chapter 12 - 13). What is most likely to blame?

1) The LG drive and/or firmware
2) PowerDVD Ultra
3) My video card?
4) Other, please specify?

I hope it can be fixed with a firmware update for the drive or a product update for the PowerDVD. Anyone else use PowerDVD Ultra for HD playback and not see a layer change pause?

It is a short (< 1 second) pause but I would like to eventually be able to fix it. Opinions anyone?

Thanks

I have always had this issue wth DL dvds too, not sure it can be avoided.

It's definitely powerdvd, everyone has the same issue. I tried it with the arcsoft digital theatre program and it was barely noticeable/smooth.

Thanks for the reply. I suspected the PowerDVD as the primary culprit. I guess I will just have to hope for a future fix or switch players.

lol, add that to list of power dvd bugs!

It could read ahead far enough to have a buffer that would last through the layer transition, if they wanted to program it that way. Let's do some math. Even if it is close to a peak of 35Mbps, to have a 10 second buffer, 35 * 10 / 8 bits per byte, that is less than 44MB of RAM. With most modern computers having 1GB+ of RAM, 44MB is entirely possible.

Hi,

Is the LG GGW-H20L the drive HP ships under their "Blu-ray writer / HD DVD player & Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner" option?

I am considering buying the m9000t...

Thanks!

Chris
