why can't i get focus across my entire screen?

i am finally trying to focus my in777 (3 chip dlp) and i cannot get it to focus across the entire screen. i know i have some chromatic distortion but the left side is just out. it is just out of focus. the screen is flat and the pj is within 3 inches of being centered. here is what it looks like. any ideas?

can this be fixed?

Not focus but it may be panel alignment. I don't know if it can be fixed.

I would try to center it better 1st. Mine was off 1 inch and getting it centered was a big deal to PQ. Not a 3 chip device however.

by further fiddling i can adjust the focus and get the left side sharp with a little red chromatic shift and the right side is a white blur similar to the left side picture above.

I checked my 777 and could not find this test pattern. If you can tell me where it is I will give a look.

It does appear to be panel misalignment. Remember each panel can be off on three different axis which makes it a bit confounding to look at a problem and say the exact cause. Also as I understand it different colors focus differently thru the same lens which may explain the results of your "fiddling".

thanks for the offer. this is a crosshatch pattern from my lumagen scaler. i can see this with the infocus menu as well (see pic below).

i talked to infocus today and it sounds like they are leaning toward thinking it is some type of misalignment with the pj. the bad news is that i bought it over a year ago from avs and it has sat in a box for a long time while i built my theater at a glacial pace. the good news is that infocus tells me that the pj has a 2 year warrantee. avs is getting me a serial number for the pj that i can give to infocus then they will start a case on this for me. we will see how good their service group is but so far they seem very helpful.
