To add to Tony's thread, here is my cupholder/storage solution completed:
(Tony, thx for posting your photos, helps to see other ideas)Background:
These 4 chairs I bought from "Billy Bobs" going out of business sale back in 2002 here in SE Michigan, they are 4 individual manual recliners, got them for 30% of retail. Sides had cupholder, nothing for middle, so making a double cupholder/storage cabinet sorta arose from necessity.Build re-cap:
Cabinet is a Home Depot base cabinet 12" wide x 34" high x 24" deep, cut down to 24" high, cut/modified the lower door and re-mounted.
The top is leftover 3/4 MDF glued to 3/4 OSB.
Used left over formica from my subwoofer project for the top.
Maple for the side trim with clear polycoat for protection.
My original thinking was actually to cover the cabinet sides with some soft covering, possibly black carpet or some cotton w/fabric over it, to give the sides a soft feel and integrated look with the chairs.
My wife suggested just painting and seeing how it looked/felt sitting next to it. So, I painted the cabinet same as my walls, dark green (leftover paint) instead of black.
(I might call this the "leftover" project
if it was my own thread, sorry for thread hijack Tony, I felt it was easy to add to your thread for others to see different solutions)
