I am 19152 NorthEast Philly and my local Comcast Office does not have the new DCX-3400 boxes yet.

Who did you call and how did you get them to ship you 2 DCX-3400 boxes for Free?

1-800-COMCAST

i finally spoke with someone from a philly location. normally i'll chat with someone from Jamaica. try to call 8a-4p before they transfer the calls. these boxes are only a month and the employees are grabbing them. it's a free swap at comcast locations. i guess i spoke the right person at the right time.

good luck

Have the Firewire Drivers been released for the Windows (Vista/Windows7)? Windows 7 identifies the DCX as the DCX3425 but cannot find drivers.

(Preferably 64-bit)

I looked at the previous site for Comcast drivers, but nothing for the DCX3400 series.

Thanks for the info.

I found out that my local office got them in stock and I picked up 2 of them today

DCX3400 is sure a lot cooler looking then the older HD DVR boxes

It could just be my eyes but the PQ does look a lot better. Seems more colorful and vibrant if tha makes any sense.

I am very impressed!

Can you hook up a external hard drive to the DCX3400?

Or are those ports still disabled like all the other comcast boxes?

Talked to Cox in Tulsa today and they don't have any DCX boxes yet.
donaldsonjune,

Was it Willow Grove or Plymouth Meeting where you got DCX? The service rep gave me "direct lines" to each so I could check stock, but they bounced to 800-COMCAST.

I got mine brand spankin new in plastic, shipped for free. i was having issues with my old box and told the customer rep i wasnt about to keep going to local store and swapping box after box so he gave me a brand new box.

Edit: nevermind found out my fw its 22.35 this is latest correct?

@fastzipperus basically what i said above, had issues with my old box and complained to them i was tired of having to swap box after box an drive to my nearest comcast location and the problem was still present so they offered to send a latest/brand new model free of charge (also sent me a return box to send my crappy old silver box back in)

few questions, for best results for viewing (my tv does all resolutions):

1.) What should "video sharpness" be set to? its 3 by default

2.) What should 4:3 override be set to?

3.) What should Color Space be set to? ycc 4:4:4 or rgb

I've been having trouble getting the HD channels in my area as well as not being able to order a single pay-per-view. I talked to a Comcast rep yesterday and requested the DCX3400. They said they would send out a tech today with the new box. I explained to not even waste their time if they were just going to bring out the same old box.

We shall see. I'm not holding my breath.

Can someone plz explain to me how I set the box to output native?

What do the majority of users here use (with tvs that support all resolutions)? my tv supports up to 1080p ive got it set to 1080i i beleive should i set to native instead?

power off the box, hit "menu" key on remote, go into HDMI options.

native can give a small benefit in picture quality but can cause a delay switching between channels that use different formats.

can't tell you what the majority of people do, but if my seating area was more than about two screen-heights away from a 1080p set, i would just choose 1080 and be done with it.

I just got my DCX 3400. How do I tell which HDD I have? I assume it's the 160gb.

There should be a sticker on the bottom of the box indicating the disk drive size.
i wouldn't assume 160 - i never heard of a DCX with that size hard drive. it's very likely 250.
I think Comcast is exclusively using the 250GB version of the DCX, but a 160GB version exists.

I've put in fresh batteries and even replaced the remote, but it no difference. After 5 or 10 minutes, the remote starts working again. The front panel buttons always work.

Does this intermittent behavior sound like an IR problem? Has anyone else run into this?

I received my box three days ago and am experiencing IR problems. I have to unplug the unit and plug it back in for it to start working again. Do you have one that is working now or is it still an issue?

Until the tech comes out how would you know it wasn't a signal problem? Your box may be fine. But I'm sure you'll tell us when you let us know how the call went. Also, many areas don't have the DCX box in stock.

cable watcher,

i just called the 1-800 number & spoke to the right person. i've learned if one person doesn't help, just hang up call again. i'm very chatty when i want something, my person had a hdtv & he knew what he was talking about. when one person won't, the other will.
It looks like the 250. Thanks

All was well until...I powered up my equipment and noticed that when I power down my TV there is a HDMI handshake that resets my HDMI options and resets me back to 720p and a bunch or resolutions I don't want on and my 4:3 override will not stick. It does 2 HDMI handshakes when I power up the TV. So I get to reset things to 1080i every time I watch TV. If I leave it in the default mode, I randomly get stretched 4:3 content for no rhyme or reason. Quite annoying, but the format button (if I happen to be recording or in OnDemand) does the trick (I wish there was a remote code for that button). Or I can just go into the 16:9 menu every time I turn it on.

I called Comcast to report this a a firmware problem. My box goes to my Denon AVR-1909 that has direct HDMI pass-thru before it goes to the TV (last years Sammy DLP 50"), so there could be something up there. The first dude I spoke to told me that all Comcast content is sent 720P, which I know is incorrect (at least I hope that is not the case) since I can set to native (that does not stick) and I get programs at their native broadcast resolutions. The dude I was speaking to was with the voice/phone group and obviously had no clue. He said he would report the problem, but stood by his claim that Comcast only broadcasts HD in 720p I then spoke to a cable lady and she was much more helpful and suggested that I may have a bad unit. I am running the latest 22.35 firmware, which I understand to be the latest code. They are coming tomorrow to swap to see if they can fix it. We will see what happens, you never know with theses things.

Anyone else having this problem. I could not find any posts about it in this thread, need to check the AVR-1909 thread.

Sadly they took my DCH-3416 away and I don't think they will give out the old units anymore, so I'm stuck with this POS. I don't understand why HDMI is such an issue with Moto, it is not like they have not been supporting it since almost day one. The HDMI code in the 3416 was rock solid and I NEVER had a problem with it.

I had the same problem after getting the 22.35 FW that allowed me to connect the hdmi from the cable box to my pioneer sc05 receiver and from there to the tv. Every time I would turn everything off and then on the next time the native setting would be lost and the box would automatically reset to 720p mode and 4:3 would be stretched. I solved the problem by connecting the hdmi from the box to the hdmi 3 port on my receiver. I don't know why if I connect to any other hdmi port on the receiver (hdmi 1 or hdmi 2) the native setting doesn't hold. Apparently, hdmi 3 on the pioneer is different from the other hdmi ports because it works beautifully with the DCX3400 without any problems.

Hi, I'm new to the world of Motorola DVRs. I just got the 3400 thru my local Atlanta Comcast store. I have been using ReplayTV for years and am moving up to HD recordings. With ReplayTVs, they could be added to your home network and with a free app your computer could become a virtual ReplayTV, which allowed you to download recordings to your computer. Is there a way to get Motorola 3400 recordings downloaded to a computer? I see a network port on the back of my unit.
Sorry murphythefatcat, as of now those ports are just there to taunt us, you can't connect & transfer the content on your network.
