30W HTIB Speakers on new 130W reciever OK?

Newb speaker question, but I like to look before I leap so I thought I'd post.

I'm going from an old Sony DAV-S300 HTIB (30Wpc) system to a new Denon AVR receiver (130Wpc) with Onix Ref Speakers, but I don't have all my new loudspeakers yet due to back-orders and different shipping dates. Currently, I have the new fronts and the center.

In this interim, I would like to set up my new receiver with the new Onix fronts and center and use the OLD small Sony cube speakers for the rears. Would this be safe? Would I damage those small speakers that were designed for 30Wpc or possibly do damage to the receiver?

I know there are a bunch of posts about more power being better, but at some point isn't there a limit to this, short of say a lighting strike?

I couldn't decide if this was a HTIB, Receiver or Speaker question, so I decided it was a speaker question. If not, sorry for the cross-post.

The only reason the lightning is bad is because it damages your amp.

Remember, your receiver won't put out full power all the time. In fact, it will rarely put out anything close, and even then only in short bursts. This will be especially true for your surrounds. You MIGHT damage them, but I doubt it. I can't think of any reason you would damage your AVR, even if you do manage to smoke the little sats.

Thanks for the feed back, Hurtful Goat. If all goes well I will be setting up the new receiver tomorrow and I can report back if I accidentally cook anything. Great screen name btw.

Adding those HTIB rears temporarily will make your new system sounds like someone put a clock radio in the back of the room.

You will find your system sounds just fine without rear speakers, while you wait for the new ones to arrive.

I am with john, just turn the rears off for now.

I'm in the same boat as you average_joe and I put my panasonic speakers from my old htib to use as my rears and I dont think it sounds bad for temporary purposes. But as soon as my bookshelfs come in I will be hooking them up.
