not possible with Blu-ray, at least not in a timely manner... so most
are keeping Blu-ray discs untile they're done watching.... this explapins
why there's a long queue for most Blu-ray movies from Netflix.(and also
Blockbuster)

I think you have it backwards. I know about 5 families with Netflix accounts and none of them just "copy the DVD to their computer" and return it. We all use the service as a legitamate rental process.

I believe Netflix is the one who copies DVDs and sends them out. I have noticed many times that DVDs don't have the original artwork on them.

I think we can figure out a couple of reasons for the delay:

1. Netflix isn't willing to pour money into a format if it disappears next year, and

2. Netflix actually creates the phycial copy of the SD movie rather than pay a movie company for the retail box. This probably cuts their cost and delay time significantly. Demand for Movie X is greater than anticipated? Run off another 500 copies tomorrow. I assume Blu-ray disc copying equipment is more expensive and not as common.

(Btw, I'm not saying Netflix illegally copies the SD disc. Their deal with the movie company allows it, that's why you see the plain netfix disc rather than the fancy retail disc printing. Maybe the movie companies don't want to lose control of their Blu-ray copying.)

Same here for me impossible to get HD or Blu on pretty much anything recent. I mainly get TV releases now and Was on the 6 disk plan , I think I'm trottling back too.

I just called yet again to complain. I currently have no movies at home (going on day 11 without being shipped anything). They offered to give me one bonus disk rental for free. That does me no good considering they have to send me one before I can use the freebie.

I get billed on Tuesday, so Monday (Tuesday's new releases) is their last chance to keep me as a customer.

At least this CSR seemed to care about their poor performance and attempted to get me to stay w/ them. He said they plan on increasing inventory, but Christmas (new BD players and gift certificates) are killing them. Last week the rep told me to cancel and try again in a few months.

I've NEVER had a problem with Netflix. I get both BD's and HD DVD's very quickly. I've got over 400 movies in my queue and I always get the HDM at the top of the queue. I got the Simpsons Movie the day it was released. I'm not sure why so many of you are having problems. I've been with them from the very beginning, I was probably one of their first customers. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I just had Eastern Promises (HD-DVD) and Cast Away (Bluray) shipped to me after returning two movies yesterday. I don't know what the current wait on those are, but last time I checked Eastern Promises and Cast Away had a long wait. This was only a few days ago.

I still have all my "wait" movies at the top of my queue. That seems to be helping a bit.

If you've read through the thread you'll have noticed that most people have been having problems with their HDM choices, so count yourself lucky.

I wonder if the amount of HDM stock at your local distribution center might have something to do with some people getting good service while most others aren't.

I dropped from 3 to 1 at a time. I had hopped to get my first choice, Breaker Morant, but my returned disc got there on a Tuesday and now Breaker is listed as a long wait. We'll see how long.

I just added Simpsons, Oceans 13, and Live free or die hard. Now, Now, and short wait respectively.
Interesting

complaining apparently DOES light a fire under their arse, in addition to downgrading your service...

as i've stated, i went from 4 to 1 at a time...immediately they had 3:10 to Yuma shipping and then they also popped in a bonus (i suppose for my trouble/aggravation), Shoot'em Up...

i will definitely miss the 4 at a time but i was fed up with having empty queues sitting there...

was a member since Jan '07 and this is the first time things got this bad...maybe it was the post-holiday rush...if people start reporting better service i'll re-up

I rent them as they come out, And I usually get about 3 per week. Mainly BlyRay but occasionally ill get a HD-DVD at times.

Could be your location and what center they are sending them out of. I'm thinking mine come out of Chicago.

I think it is your level of service. I was specifically told that when there are many people going for the same disc -- those with the lower plan (less discs out at a time) will get priority. So a one at a time will get priority over a 4 at a time.

So going to one out at a time is probably why things are shipping to you now.

4.5 stars from netflix viewers... You must be among the very very few that didn't like it.

Netflix has been horrifyingly bad regarding Blu-ray and HD-DVD availability lately. I am definitely going to be sending in a complaint, and would recommend others do as well.

BTW, how do you do a screen capture? I would love to post a capture of my Queue here. It's pretty bad.

Hit "print screen" and then open up a blank word document or photo editing software and paste it to a blank canvas. Save as a jpeg and post.

This whole thread reminds me of why I dumped BB and Netflix.

that is totally counter-intuitive to me, but that doesn't mean you aren't right

I don't agree! When I went from 1 at a time to 3 is when things got better for me with new releases. You would think they may want to keep the higher costing accounts happy but I agree that the smaller accounts shouldn't be neglected.

All I can do is wish netflix good luck in trying to keep everyone happy with the small amount of discs they have of each BD. The situation will only get worse as more people come aboard .

Hopefully as we get more people renting Blu-rays they will also occassionaly buy some as well. If so, the numbers will continue to get better for Blu-ray and hopefully get us closer to ending this thing once and for all..

If/when that happens hopefully Netflix will up their supply.

I know, I have a lot of hoping

All I know is there is 9 pages of unhappy people with netflix right now and 1 or 2 of those people in this thread said they are actually receiving new releases. Does netflix actually even have these movies?
I think the availability has a lot to do with your physical location. I'm pretty sure there is a much higher demand for hd titles in NYC or some California locations than, let's say, Florida. And, while I've occasionally had a regular DVD shipped from other locations, I don't believe they would do it with hd titles given their demand/supply.

I've always used to have a slot available on Mon and NEVER EVER had a problem getting newly released title, either regular or HD-DVD. That is until beginning of Dec. Since then my success rate went to nearly 0 for hd titles.

I am in SoCal, and I have had numerous HD titles shipped to me from other locations, including Florida!

So hit your Print Screen button (on some keyboards you may need to hit the "function key" or "shift" keyif it's shared with another button.

In photoshop, click on "new" or "new palette". Something like that. It will ask you to pick a size/resolution and just hit "ok." Then go to edit and "paste" or hit "ctrl"+"v".

Should work, that's how I do it.

Edit: Alright so checking Netflix this morning, Shoot 'Em Up is still available now and #1 on my list. They received both movies I sent back yesterday this morning, so I better get something good

^^^^

Well I sent two back yesterday and it was confirmed this morning they were rec'd. My next BD in the queue said available but it was skipped and I am being shipped the next two. Oh well!
I have 3 slots available and only one available now movie on the queue. Netflix didn't ship even the "available now" movie. What a bad service, bad product and specially bad management!!!

This happened to me 2-3 weeks ago. I sent back a couple movies and Oldboy was available "now" in my queue, but it was #7 or 8 on the list, sandwiched between about 15 titles that had a wait. They sent me #16 on my list which was a DVD instead.

Sometimes I'd rather not pay attention ...only makes it more frustrating.

My queue hasn't updated with which movies I'll be receiving tomorrow, yet.

Update: I'm receiving #17 and #18 in my queue, Stranger Than Fiction and Waiting. How ironically appropriate
