Like I mentioned I'm not after the new releases. I'm trying to get older catalog titles.

Catalog titles that have been out for a while or catalog titles just being released?

If it's a new release of a a catalog title, the waits will be just as long.

What was the Blu Ray fee fiasco? I've not had this issue at all except on new releases but then I don't want all the average mainstream dreck, just some of it smile.gif ...

I'm curious to see a list of the catalog titles showing any wait status .. and what definition is used for catalog .. 6 months / a year .. ??
That's strange. I've never had to wait on a movie except for the new true blood season that my wife wants. Maybe you should put more movies in your queue.

What BD fiasco? I still receive my BDs on release day which is usually Tuesday. Netflix is miles and miles ahead of Blockbuster. Which I recently canceled again. It's extremely rare for me to not receive a BD title during it's release week.

I use to be in the same boat, getting the BRs that are newly released by Netflix on that Tuesday. For the last couple of weeks, Netflix or more likely the USPS has been messing that timing up (because Netflix indicates that it has been shipped); i.e., return a dvd on Saturday and receive the #1 choice on Tuesday, assuming that it would be released by Netflix on that day. Not yet ready to ditch Netflix yet because my queue is more than long enough.

So yer sayin' the size of your queue has a positive effect?

I'd still like to see a list of catalog title waits from any folks that are experiencing the issues they have noted on wait times .. as well as a definition of what would be a catalog title .. 6 months / a year old .. ??

On my list, long waits for catalog BD titles include:

Heart, Alive in Seattle
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (tv series)
Finding Neverland
District 13

Guess it depends on your location and distribution center.

I would say distribution center may be the key .. I dropped all those in my Q and got :

Finding Neverland .. BD & DVD Available
Heart, Alive in Seattle .. short wait / BD or DVD
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (TV) .. Available
District 13 .. BD / DVD Available

The Fee fiasco was when they started charging for BD access. A lot of members here quit as did I when it happened. Years ago...

But currently, when I check the prices, a Netflix plan with BD is the same as Blockbuster. Only Netflix gives you the option to only rent DVDs for a lower price. Blockbuster does not give you that options and requires BD to be part of your plan.

I wasn't talking about currently. I was talking about what happened when Netlix first included the BD access charge. Regardless this will be my first and last month. They don't have enough catalog BDs for my taste. I'll just buy them and sell them. I'll probably break even lol.

Really? A lot of members quite because they had to pay $1-3 more for premium product?

I thought it was a much bigger debacle when they separated the disc and streaming plans last year, tried to make the disc rental a completely separate account/website, named it the same thing as some rude blog site, and then had to backtrack on most of the changes.

I tried the Blockbuster service for a while on a trial basis recently, it totally sucked. Few choices and long waits compared to Netflix. Not even close. Even for free it was a pain.

The separation and subsequent streaming costs were what I remember being the main issue ..

I was tentatively enthusiastic about them splitting off the disc rental business. Having a management team that was 100% focused on disc rentals might have resulted in a better service - i.e. possibly a broader and deeper disc library. I guess we'll never know...

To me, the biggest debacle was the dark half-year or so period in which they completely stopped buying newly released catalog BD - that really sucked. The coverage of new catalog releases is still a little weak, but it's certainly better than absolutely nothing.

I don't know if any outfit will ever offer any and all BD's that have ever been made .. the cost benefit to that would be very small ..

These days, when the availability of older material is readily available on places like eBay or Amazon at pennies on the dollar if you don't mind used but fully functional ..

This morning I tried my usual routine... I went to the weekly new releases page:

http://www2.netflix.com/AllNewReleases

But what was in there looked like LAST WEEK's new releases. Anybody know what's going on with this? This is the main way I figure out what to put in my queue for new releases... If they stop updating it permanently, that will really suck.

STRANGE!

On several browsers on my PC, as well as on my Droid phone, I get last week's list. Clearing cache = no effect.

On the Bluray side it starts with Mirror Mirror and Wanderlust, both of which released last week. Further down the list (in DVD) it lists Meeting Evil, and shows it being At Home for me, as I rented it. It doesn't show new releases planned for this week, such as Detention or Hatfields & McCoys (Blurays).

Cleared cache on handheld as well as PC, no change in what's listed. Would you be able to post a screencapture of what you see? Sorry to trouble you but if we're using the same link, I can't explain the different results. Here's what I see:

I would appreciate any further suggestions. Thanks!

I wasn't ready to quit when the BD fee came about, but I did drop down a disc when it went from $1 to $3 on my particular plan.

What got me was the combination of seperating the plans (with no bundling discount) and deciding the disc customers weren't worthy of being part of Netflix (the Quickster thing). I almost cancelled, but ended up keeping a one disc plan with no streaming after the backed off on Quickster.

Unfortunately, BB sucked for me after my local store closed, so I'm back at 3 out with Netflix. I'd add streaming, but I only want it for a small amount of viewing. Paying full price for unlimited streaming I won't use is too much. If they offered a Disc and streaming bundle for less than the two prices put together, I'd probably bite. With every other service out there, you get discounts for adding features. Since Netflix won't, they won't get any more money from me.

For us disc only subscribers, it looks like they fixed one bug in their system. When you searched for a title, there were many times it showed a BD logo for that title even if it wasn't available on BD. Just a few weeks ago, searching for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" got me all excited when I saw a BD logo next to it, but among the search results, it also showed a BD logo next to Deep Space 9, Voyager, Enterprise, and The Animated Series, and there hasn't even been an announcement of a BD release for those. But now when I do that same search, I can see that it is DVD only. Therefore, I picked up ST:TNG season 1 at a local Best Buy; yet another example of a relatively popular catalog BD release that Netflix isn't carrying.

I noticed it didn't update till later this morning. At this time it's updated. Perhaps a DNS issue at your end.

IT updated for me a little while ago. Must have been some delay between them and me. All's fixed now.

After looking at what's coming out, I don't know if I'd care if it was updated or not .. "Hatfields & McCoys" is about the only worthwhile and I say that when it came out ..

This month has been pretty thin on new material, IMO .. hoping August is better ..

Fully agreed.

I had two discs back for today and just let the queue ride as it was from last week. I may want to see Hatfields & McCoys at some point down the road, but I don't need to see it enough to worry about it now.

The rest of the stuff was.....meh...

At least this gives me a chance to clear some queue items before I add more stuff.

I will say that I was pleasantly surprised with H & M .. I kinda felt it would be good, considering the cast, but it turned out to be fairly riveting .. I think Ralph has a review up on the BD release .. it left me hoping History Channel would do more of this type material ..

Q clearance is pretty much all I've done this month .. I picked up a few RB BD's that they apparently are buying at retail in order to get them in the kiosks on release day ..
