I'd be willing to bet just as many customers have THG on "Very Long Wait" status at this point as any other title. It really doesn't matter what day the movie comes out - if you don't get a disc back by the day before a new release comes out, you're going to be waiting for at least a month.
..........
....
That doesn't always seem to be the case. Sometimes it seems like Netflix sends a bunch of titles out on the day before release and also a bunch the day of release. Over the years I've added titles on that Monday night after I realized they were being released. So even though they shipped titles out to people on Monday I still go my disc shipped on Tuesday.
While I hate to generalize, I think you're giving people too much credit. Honestly, most people don't pay attention to stuff like that. Even if it's front of their face. Just look at the Sunday ads. Best Buy or Target or Wal-Mart will advertise a new release and under it, it happens to say not available until day XXX. And that day happens to be that Tuesday. I bet most people don't even get the pattern. Books and video games also are released on Tuesdays. I bet most people don't get that either.
No different than people going to see movies in the movie theater for decades. And for some reason not realizing that there are different aspect ratios.
Just wanted to add, half the people are of below average intelligence.
I know you were kidding, but we do often joke a lot more than we should about people being stupid.
Most people aren't stupid, they just don't care enough about this stuff to become informed about it. It's not so much lack of ability to learn so much as lack of desire.
I'm sure that all those people have some other hobby and think we're "stupid" when we don't care to know anything about it. For example, I know very little about wine. People who "know" wine would think I'm a bumpkin when it comes to choosing a good wine. It's not that I couldn't learn about wine so much as I really don't care enough to learn about it. I have a very good package store near me with a guy who does know his stuff, so i just ask him when I buy a bottle. He makes sure I walk out with a reasonably priced bottle of wine (not bargain basement, but not $100 a bottle, either) that will go well with the meal I'm serving. I've never had any complaints from those who drink it, so it's just simpler to rely on his judgement.
I think that's how most people are with home video entertainment. They might occasionally ask for help when their really lost, but generally just rely on brand names and habit.

"I paid good money for this TV and I don't want the screen wasted by black bars that crop out part of the movie!"

I'm sorry but most people lack the desire to learn new information and are stupid.

LOL! I have a friend whose wife said that for years about their 4:3 sets (I would try to get them to watch in proper AR when I visited), now they have a 16:9 flat panel and watch in proper AR....
I was at a friend's house a year or two ago, and they played a DVD on their 16x9 LCD 1080p set. Their settings were "stretch-o-vision" to avoid black bars. Drove me nuts.
Netflix seems to have messed up their link forwarding in the last week or so on their website. If you have a Disc + Instant or Instant-Only plan, I'm curious to know what happens when you click on the following three links (while signed in to Netflix):
Link style #1 is what I have on my website for my Netflix links, but they're not redirecting to link style #3 anymore for disc-only plans (what I have). Right now, it's redirecting to link style #2 (which doesn't allow you to queue if you're disc-only) but earlier it was just dumping me onto the homepage.
I'm not sure if redirects from #1 -> #2 are working for plans with Instant in the mix, so if someone wants to give these a try and report back it's very much appreciated. Thanks!
Anybody else having issues logging on to Netflix? I keep getting this message:

Yea, they are having problems. I called them today and you need to clear your Netfilx cookie. They can send you an email with a link that will do it for you or you can just delete the Netflix cookie manually. I cleared mine and it is back to normal. Apparently they are doing some site work and some things are screwed up right now. Mine is working fine now.

Thanks. Been driving me nuts all day. Thought it were my computer. Just updated my McAfee and thought it had done something it shouldn't have.
I'm was thinking of joining NF after dropping BB this winter. With BB, I was getting few, if any, titles (in Bluray) shipped to me over the course of 2 to 3 months, and I had a 2-at-a-time program ! Most titles were long or very long wait, especially new releases. That didn't bother me as long as I could stop in to my local BB store and get an in-store exchange. But then BB corporate closed all of the stores in my city so I finally canceled my subscription instead of paying them $18 a month for NOTHING. I came here to find out if my experience will be better with NF. After reading some comments here, it seems like it isn't much better, with additional issues like lossy only soundtracks instead of the HD soundtracks that are on the retail versions. I thought the RENTAL versions just meant movie only with no xtra features. Sigh. I'm disappointed in the apparent dumbing down of AQ in movies and music. I won't take sides on whether or not most people can hear the difference between lossy or lossless soundtracks. My only comment will be - if you don't care or can't tell the difference, go with the DVD version. I thought that's why we have Bluray - to give people the best picture and sound quality that current consumer technology can offer. It's like BMW rolling out a car built and engineered like a Honda Fit (sorry, no offense to Honda or Fit lovers), slapping the coveted M badge on it and selling it in the same price tier as the rest of their M series. Hmm ?
So getting back on track. I'm wondering, since some users said the advantage NF has over Redbox is breadth of titles, do they stock some of the remastered bluray titles of movies ? I'd like to rent but not own titles like Ben Hur (Heston) or Out of Africa or Lawrence of Arabia or something more recent vintage like the extended dirs cut of Avatar. Same would apply to the recently restored Jaws.
I had five new release titles at the top of my queue this morning and two incoming returns. Was hoping to get both discs of Walking Dead. But I got NO new releases assigned to me. Not even the crappy Moth Diaries I put in there as sort of a safety disc. Grrr. Zero out of five sucks.
Was doing pretty well for a few weeks before this.
I've got all four BDs of The Walking Dead Season 2 headed toward me. I'm glad I increased my subscription from 2 out to 4 out for this month. As usual Netflix did not disappoint.

No BD on any other than Avatar .. and there is no indication of Avatar being the dir ex cut ..

I tried BB mail service for a coupla months. Lousy selection, like almost nothing, especially in BluRay, and the popular choices took a while to ship, and even some not-so-popular ones. Netflix has waaaaay more selection. Netflix hips faster, and receives faster, too. The BluRay dumbing down thing is more a recent thing. It would be nice if Netflix would at least tell you up front about extras being restricted, or lesser soundtracks, etc...but maybe that will come along.
Interesting queue development for me. All of yesterday's new releases now show Unknown availability for me. Probably just a glitch but interesting given I got zero new releases shipped yesterday.

I had a fifth title in my queue that was released yesterday, "Think Like a Man". It is also showing "unknown" for the expected availability.

Sadly, my string of success on Monday recieved / Monday New Release ships has come to a tragic end this week .. no new release shipped even though I had them top of the Q and my return got to the dist center Monday .. oh, well, not much on New Releases this week anyway ..

How many new releases have you gotten lately? If I get too many in a row they will eventually pull back for a while. The trick is to look way ahead and cherry pick the ones you REALLY want to see.

I have gotten all new releases mailed on Monday and recieved on Tuesday that I've had at the top of my Q now for about 2 years .. up until this week ..
The "strategic" approach has worked for me in the past. Recently I've had good luck and got greedy. I guess my NR allocation has been throttled this week. Oh well.

Yup .. that's just the way it goes .. for this week, anyway ..

Same here. Both items I put in my queue are "unknown" right now.
Honestly, I'm not overly worried about it since they weren't things I would have sought out had they not been in the list and looked interesting. It's still annoying to have something that should have been coming out suddenly not available at all, though.
