"Hit or miss" has not been my Netflix experience so far. Until I re-arranged my queue, I've always received the new weekly release when mailing a Blu-ray on Saturday.

Ditto.

I've also had pretty good, but not infallible, experience in timing my new mailings for Tuesdays (i.e. making sure I get it in Monday's mail for delivery to Netflix Tuesday). Really popular releases sometimes I have to wait even then...

Come August, doing the Saturday return trick comes to an end since no more USPS on Saturday.
So now we need to turn them in on Friday and hope the USPS sorting gets it there on time for Monday.

Not so fast. The only thing being dropped by the USPS is home delivery. It's not likely to effect Netflix at all, other than you won't get discs delivered to your home on Saturday. PO Boxes not effected, post offices still open and sorting centers not effected.

Of course it will affect Netflix. If there are only five delivery days during the week instead of six, then there will be less discs mailed out and returned since there is one day less where they are delivered. Which means that Netflix will spend less on postage.

Netflix also will not be getting any discs picked up/delivered to them on Saturday.

The Postal Service is making the announcement today, more than six months in advance of implementing five-day mail delivery schedule, to give residential and business customers time to plan and adjust.

NF Picks up their disks at Postal Sorting facilities daily as well as delivering outgoing disks .. one of the reasons they have such a good deal on the postage cost ..

Exactly. They pick up and deliver (pre-sorted) at the USPS sorting center. So the only thing that changes is home delivery, and you'll still be able to drop discs at the post office on Saturday and have them checked in on Monday (if you can do that now).

I think that will be the case .. nothing has been said by the USPS as far as drop off at their corner mailboxes either .. I would guess that dropping disks into those blue public mailboxes or at the Post Office itself would maintain the same NF scedule that we enjoy now ..

I always drop off anyway so no big deal to me ..
I guess we'll see if that works ..
With respect to the blue corner mail boxes: Not all of them have a daily collection schedule, and those that do may not be picked up on schedule. As always, its best to drop at the PO.
And if you use a PO Box for your delivery address, you'll still get discs on Saturday too.

While I know they don't collect on Sunday, I've never seen one that did not have a Monday - Saturday schedule posted on the box .. at least in my area ..

I know of two in areas I frequent that don't collect on Saturday. But those are also near businessess so they probably don't collect on Saturday because those businesses are typically closed.

I guess the tip is then to make sure the posted schedule includes Saturday pick up ..
For years, I've set my queue up to have new releases at the top, titles with a wait status, then available titles in somewhat random order. I always return at least one title on Saturday to get the new release on Tuesday.
Last Saturday, I returned two titles expecting to get "Company Of Heroes," a 2/26 release and one other title. Over the weekend, I had a little time to burn and re-ordered my available queue by highest to lowest star rating. When I checked Netflix this morning, instead of shipping "Company Of Heroes", they are shipping "True Grit" and "A Bridge Too Far."
The only explanation that I can think of is that "True Grit" (projected 5 stars) and "A Bridge Too Far" (projected 4.75 stars) have higher predicted star ratings than "Company Of Heroes" (projected 3.5 stars).
Has anyone else seen/noticed this?
To follow up on my own post, I returned two disks Saturday and received two new releases this week. Must have been a fluke .

In fact, it might be easier to get new releases on Tuesday since not everyone who puts discs out in their home mail box on Saturdays now will go to the post office or the nearest box to drop them off. Those people will likely wait until Monday or try to send the disc out on Friday.
That means there might be more chance of getting one of the new releases if you make the effort to get the disc to the PO on Saturday.
In my case, I'm on a walking route so I have to go to the post office to mail stuff out...there's no pick up at my place. Nothing will change for me other than the occasional delivery that might have come on Saturday.

I here you.
It seems a couple years ago, I could consistently count on getting a Tuesday new release when I had a disc checked in on Monday but now I'm lucky if I get one every other month.
I've pretty much given up on getting new releases from Netflix.
If they didn't have a vast blu-ray catalog selection, I probably would drop them and just use the library and Redbox for my rentals.

Sorry to hear that, but it hasn't been an issue for me. Almost every Tuesday or Wednesday, new releases come to my door. BTW, like your avatar!
I do know one sure way though to get a new release on Tuesday.
Put your account on hold a month prior to the new release movie.
On the Sunday before the new release, activate your account and put the new release at the top of your queue.
Netflix is happy you're back and their "magic algorithm" mysteriously sends out the new release. It's like taking cuts in line.

Same. Not only that, but if I watch the new release I get Tuesday, and send it back Wednesday, I virtually always get another new release (when there are multiple new releases on Tuesday) for Friday. Netflix has been incredibly quick the last few months/year getting me new releases. I can't even tell you the last time I had even a "Short Wait" for a title. That's a far cry from a few years ago when I would wait months for a new release.
I don't know when a release goes from new to catalog, but Skyfall is certainly not a new release of the week .. maybe a new NF release that had a wait ..
i have been using NF, again, for the last few months. it has been working great = return (from my mailbox) monday, they get it tuesday, new movies in my mailbox wed. can't beat that !
and they saved my "ratings list" for over 2 years ! awesome !
but what i DO NOT LIKE i that they do not have the preview any more
