hehehehe "sconce" is one of those words that i can't say without feeling pretty frilly and fabulous.

www.lightingdirect.com has a pretty wide selection of sconces, along with other lighting fixtures.

I got my sconces from there and they gave me a great deal with a pretty large discount on the listed price... and I didn't even ask for it. I plan on getting my ceiling fixtures from them as well when I need them.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would throw in a picture of my sconces as a person can't have too many ideas to look at when building a HT!

Here are mine from HD at $20 each. They look much better in person and throw off great light. The crystals act like jewels and give a very elegant look to the room.

Excellent choice for your room. They seem to fit perfectly with the color and decor.

Nice choice for your room, very classy old fashioned "golden hollywood" kind of look you have going on!

That's the look I was trying to achieve, thanks.
I don't recall what this model was called but they were on clearance at the store I went to and the price was great considering all the alternative ones we had looked at ranging up to $250 a piece. We have a total of four in the room (3 along one side and 1 opposite those) and they light everything perfectly.

Sconces can be nice in decorative terms, but for me one of the mistakes people can make is building their home theater lighting around sconces.

Not a few times we've had people wondering how they can get a good image with some lights on in the room, e.g. for sports watching with pals, or just if they like a bit of light on. But then you see they have used sconces, most of which throw light out in a wide direction, inevitably washing out the screen images.

More focused lighting - pot or track lights - works much better to give flexibility, allowing light to be focused only over the required areas vs sending light toward the screen as well.

To my mind, sconces make sense so long as you also have some focusable lighting integrated in the home theater room as well.

From Home Depot online.

^^^^^ Case in point?

(Although it looks very nice!).

cybrsage, are you in the construction stage? It looks like you have gone to lengths to cut room reflections (dark paint) but have gone with some light-spreading sconces for room lighting. Do you ever plan to be able to watch your screen with any ambient or task lighting?

Those look very nice. I saw them on HD's website but they were more money than I was willing to pay. Afraid my budget is more along the Menard's line. My only suggestion is that you put a dimmer on them as they sure give off a lot of light.
