SONY BRAVIA 2008 Line Up - Page 8

Didja see Jason Unger's story today about the TWENTY ONE new Sony '08 models?

Can you imagine the poor BB, CC and other consumer electronics retailers with their limited knowledge of current models trying to explain the different features of 21 new models to customers???

Once the strike in Mexico is over you should see them hit the stores. The assembly Mexicans are asking for 52 cents an hour over the current rate of 47 cents an hour.

Nothing over 52"? Lame. Weren't these models announced like a month ago, anyways?

How about the three new Bravia F models (46", 40" and 32") recently announced in Japan? Haven't seen any comments on these boards. I'm interested because they are so thin -- I live in a small NYC apartment and will mount on the wall.

Here's a link to some info: http://www.hdtvlounge.net/sony/f-series/

I'd be interested in anyone's comments, especially a comparison of the 40" model (KDL40F1) with the upcoming Bravia XBR6 37" (KDL37XBR6).
The equivalent to F series is Z series

Man to hell with Sony, I think we should convert Sharp/Samsung for bigger sets!
I wonder if the new sets will come will free clouding and smearing just like the current models............my betting would be yes
post #221 of 6575
guys, is there any pricing info on these new sets? particularly 32" and 37"?
Some guy just dropped a possible bomb about the '08 XBR's (I'm assuming 40+) being LED driven. Not sure where he came by his info specifically, but it's the first mention I've seen of it outside of complete conjecture. I'm sure there's a lot of interest in this thread.
I have also expected them to be LED lets hope its true
post #224 of 6575
I know at CES they showed a prototype 82"ish LED LCD, but it twas a prototype.
IT WOULD BE NICE but man $$$$
So is confirmed anywhere that the new sonys are still going to have an 8ms reponse time? If so I have to say I think sony is really dropping the ball this year.
Thread Starter
since sony is releasing a broadcasting LCD with LED's(42") this summer the xbr's may have them also.

8ms is still unkown, since samsung has 4ms on their new line up sony could have 4ms also.

As usual, they will be the best performing, but it is unfortunate that there is not a more distinctive style for 2008, IMO.

They still haven't shown the larger XBR6/7's. The 32XBR2/4, for instance, did NOT have the floating glass designs (or whatever silly named they called it) of the 40+XBR2/3/4/5. This glass strip they've got running along the bottom of these new models looks pretty silly, but the aluminum bezels pictured a page or two back almost make up for it.

To each his own. I hate the useless floating glass. To me it stands out like an infected zit on your blind dates nose.

Not sure what it is worth, but went to BB on Saturday and asked about the new Sony line. The guy looked in the computer and didn't see them. However they will stop carrying the W-3000 on 06/29/08 and the XBR4 on 08/31/08. Presumably the replacements, W-4100 and the next 52 inch XBR, should arrive around then.

took 5 min out of my day with photoshop to make a suggestion

Sony better hurry with a 60 inch pannel, otherwise my other fav pioneer, giving up on plasma might grab my $$$

That's what I'm saying, too. I think the LCD would be the better fit for my room (a lot of ambient light) but yeah, I'm not gonna go down to a 52" set. If they don't announce anything this generation, I'll probably end up with the Pio 6010. Certainly not a bad set (probably better in a lot of ways).

Wow, thanks for the info Tele-tv. Did you catch the possible bit of awful news though?

Quote:
Another big news item is that Sony is establishing a uni lateral pricing policy on its projectors from the model VPL-vw60 on up and its new top of the line XBR panels. This policy starts in May and means they are hiring a shopping service and will terminate after warnings any dealer caught selling below MSRP for these models.

This is a definite deal breaker for a lot of people, doubly so if they use the LED tech to justify MSRP increases over last year's--which would probably surprise no one.
^^

Thanks orta (really). I read that uni-lateral part but I didn't register in my head because of the Triluminos news. Figured there (probably) would be a price increase because of the LED's. Sorry if I'm giving any misinformation because sometimes I don't always read things through.

[Well, for me, right now its a Samsung LNT-4065 purchase right away until the new XBR 6/7 LCD's, LG LED LCD, and Mitsubishi Laser TV come out to see what there like.]
Question for Tele-TV or anyone who knows the answer: The write-up on “2008 Sony Open House Tidbits” linked above by Tele-TV refers to the “XBR 08 series.” Is that the same as the new models announced at the beginning of this post -- the XBR6 and the Z series, for example? So does XBR 08 = XBR6?

I hope so, because the Triluminos and ACE technologies described in the write-up sound great, and I hope they will be included in the 37” XBR6 or the 40” Z model, both of which I have my eye on.

Thanks for any insights.
I'm pretty sure that the Z series is already known to be CCFL backlit since the specs for the JDM Sony F-series are a known quantity.
That and I don't know what Sony could use to differentiate the XBR from the Z if Triluminous was shared.

My hope is that the XBR has the thin frame and bezel of the Z-series and adds Triluminous and ACE. That would justify the MSRP-strict pricing they're introducing.
WOW THIS IS GREAT NEWS IT LOOKS LIKE THE SONY WILL HAVE THE BEST SET PERIOD IN 08... NOW ONE QUESTION IS THE XBR SERIES IN 08 WILL THAT BE THERE HIGHEST LINE.... OR THE Z MODEL... NOW I WAS LOOKING TO BUY IN 2 MONTHS A 52 INCH XBR 5 IT LOOKS LIKE NOW ITS WORTH TO WAIT.. i have 2 questions will the triluminous and ace be in a 52 inch model and will it be the xbr and 2 what price will we be lookign at I hope we wont have to break the bank to get this new sony.. it sounds like the black levels on this thing will be awesome.... SONY STRIKES AGAIN!
WHEN WILL THESE SETS DEBUT AUGUST PERHAPS LIKE LAST YEARS MODEL...
