How you can make such generalizations? By looking at the case, which looks similar to some other model, therefor they must be the same??? Samsung and phlatlight have already stated that the LED's have been improved over those used in last years model. Doesn't sound the same to me.
I haven't found any professional reviews of the 750 yet. And I mean the 750, and not last years set.
I guess I wouldn't say you are slamming the 750 exactly, but it sure seems like you are making broad assumptions and generalizations, with little real facts to back them up, to justify your choice of the 650 over the 750.
How about just saying you've looked at both and you think the 650 is better, and that is what you chose?
I have already said both are fine sets. The only comparison in reviews I can go by are last years bulb vs last years LED. The original question was in brightness where there is absolute proof that the bulb out of the box is much brighter than the 750. The responses of saying the LED is bright enough or whatever is fine, each his own. However, saying is bright enough is different than saying it is BRIGHTER than the 650 which it is not.
That being said. I could have bought the 750. I didnt. I dont need to justify my purchase. I actually took a chance online and paid way under msrp for the 650. This is my third Samsung bulb set and I have a Samsung 40" 2007 LCD in my bedroom. I have calibrated these sets, tuned them over all components for the last few years. I feel that at least gives me ground to comment based on my experience in an AVS forum about which set I think has the better picture.
If I add to it the reviews for the last 2 generations of LED vs their bulb counterparts I come to the same conclusion. The LED sets do not have the same picture quality as the bulb set. They are a bit washed out, not as sharp and not as bright. You may not have any issues with viewing angles, my TV is caddy cornered so I would. So just because you personally (and Im not saying you directly) dont have vewing angle issues that doesnt mean the 750 has as good of a viewing angle than the 650. The 750 degrades at around 45 degrees off center. I know, I measured it. The 650 degrades around 70 degrees. However if your seating conditions allow for straight on viewing, it really isnt an issue for you.
Maybe there are improvements to the LED this year, it still doesnt make it as good as this years bulb. In the end, its up to you.
I took my friend to CC to see the 2 sets last week. I asked him to stand back about 15 feet and tell me what he thought. I got the remote from the sales guy and tuned the sets a bit. The first thing my friend said was the 750 looked great. I then asked him to stand back further so he could see the 650 as well. He said wow, look how washed out the 750 was and lacked detail. So at first glance he thought it looked great, he just thought the 650 was better. Its just my opinion, the 750 is a fine set, great picture on it. No bulb to mess around with etc. However, as a long time samsung dlp/Lcd owner who has compared many sets I feel the 650 has a better picture and its by a pretty good margin.
