Video Chat & the Eye of Judgement

The wife and I have grown kids out of state and were interested in utilizing the video chat feature for the PS3 to stay in touch. Both of us have PS3's and it seems like it would be a great way to stay in touch. Given that, I've got a couple of questions.

1) Is anyone using the video chat feature with the PS Eye on a regular basis and what are your thoughts on it as a video conferencing tool?

2) Is it worth picking up the Eye of Judgement bundle if we've never played CCG in the past? Not sure it's going to be my wife or I's 'cup of tea' but would like other's opinion's on the game - especially if you've never had interest previously in games like Magic the Gathering, etc. before...

I'm not a big card game player, but I was intrigued by "Eye of Judgment" and picked it up... and I love it! It's best when played with two people in person, but the computer and online options mean you can play it alone as well. It's a blast... every once in a while I get the craving to go buy a booster pack. I haven't done the video conferencing, but I'd be curious as to how well you like that feature if you decide to go for it.

Wow - I guess there aren't that many people using the video chat feature yet... I probably will act as guinea pig for the board later this month if that's the case. Not sure about EoJ just yet - txfilmguy, appreciate the input. I may just bite on a copy but would like more feedback prior. Keep the input coming!

Well, just 2 minutes ago I was chating with my in-laws a few miles away. The kids were having a blast with the voice changer (Alvin and the Chipmunks voices) and they were talking and making funny faces with their cousins.

So yes, there are a lot of people using it. The resolution is usually very good, sometimes choppy. But it works great.

If you want to do it for video conferencing this is a good way to go, and you can just buy the Camera without the game if you only want a mic & video chat.

So, just set audio to input to USB Camera and output device to system default.

It works great.

Few days ago spoke to my buddy before joining a madden game in Syracuse, I'm in the South East and it worked great.

Thanks Speng for the feedback. Looks like it will fit the bill nicely for some personal video conferencing then. I'll have to pick one up for us and the kids as we are going to be seeing each other this weekend. Now the only question is do I get them the game or not. More feedback on the game itself is what I need at this point it appears. Guess I'll do some surfing to get some more input in that space.

Thanks again! Mako

Search here for Eye of Judgment.

It sounds like your kids are 10+ you playing them will be a blast in Eye of Judgment. If they played chess, checkers or enjoy strategy or card games they will love EoJ.

See my post in the EoJ thread.

You should buy another deck when you buy EoJ so that your kids will have a deck to play with. Each EoJ comes with a deck.

You can also just get the ps3 eye separate if you don't want the card games. Goes for about $40.

The old Eye toy will also work for video chat.

/Video resolution is not as good though.

Well, I bit on EoJ and the PS Eye after reading through multiple reviews. Just ordered from Amazon this evening and should have them when I get back at the end of the month. I'll post a review of both the video conferencing feature and the game in this post once we get back from our trip and I get a chance to try them out. Thanks for everyone's input and tips!

Looking forward to your review. I'm interested to know if the video/audio is choppy or laggy. Do you lose the connection alot? Is it grainy? I used to video chat with my parents a few years ago using MS Netmeeting, but gave up because we spent the whole time yelling, "What did you say?" My dad is researching Blu-ray players and I keep plugging the PS3. I would like to know how this works before using this as another reason to promote the PS3.
