Samsung HL-T7288W Calibration...

I purchased this beauty about 5 weeks ago and did my basic DVE DVD calibration (I am using a Samsung BDP1400 for playback w/DVD's upconverted to 1080p), but I had some "odd" results. I don't know if this is an issue with going from a CRT based unit to DLP, if the process of upconverting is the problem, or if this is just a quirk of using the Samsung user menu controls. The picture is better, but I think it could be much better (not that it is in any way bad now!).

Anyway, to my point. I have been lurking around here for quite some time (off and on for a couple years) and being a DIY geek decided to try my hand at self-calibration. I managed to find a pretty good deal on a DTP94 and I thought I would use HCFR. I have the service menu code for my set, so I think I'm ready to give it a try, but I haven't been able to find any reasonable length threads that might help me with my particular setup. Most seem geared toward FP's or CRT RP's. Then again, I don't have the patience to slog through some of the VERY long threads on this topic.

I would appreciate any help I can get with this.

Best regards,

Scott

MichaelTLV,

Yeah, I know, but I'm hoping someone will have some pity and help out with a more pointed primer than the more generic (and up to tens or even hundreds of pages) threads I have been able to find. I can hope...

Greetings

The service menu has the coeff -C-Red c for contrast and 3 Coeff C ... R/G/B
Also three Coeff B for brightness RGB ...

Those are the grayscale controls ... under the DNIE section.

Brightness and contrast are there too ... and the color decoder stuff.

I just finished using a Sony BD and the "hidden" calibration tools. Here are the settings I came out with while using a "blue filter" on my hlt7288w using a Samsung bdp1500 player. (hdmi) Only thing I can say is I'm trying to defeat a "red push" I've noticed. These settings are just what came out of the process I followed. Anyone else have "red push"????

Mode: movie
contrast:90
brightness: 40
Sharpness: 25
color:50
tint: 42/58
color tone: normal
gama: -1
size: just scan
Color gamut: normal

Also, I have some odd "pixel banding" on non 1080p sources (when using "just scan" along the left side. Such as when watching my comcast HD dvr unit. Any one else got that one??
