New Hsu Sub Flat To 10Hz!!!

I was at T.H.E. Show yesterday ( a "next door" CES competitor) and wandered into the Hsu room. Oh my goodness! They were demoing a new prototype sub stated to be flat to 10Hz and, after the demo, I believe it! Organ music with 16Hz pedal stops cleanly heard and felt. All the usual suspects for demo scenes - plane crash from "Flight of the Phoenix", tank tap from "Nemo", etc. hit with a physical force that I've never felt before. It was a unbelieveable display for a less than ideal hotel room set-up.

I couldn't pry any info from Dr. Hsu or other company reps as to driver size, eq, price or availability. There were 2 in the back of a very dark room and I would guess that the enclosure was about the same size as the VTF-3. Needless to say, I was impressed. I'm going to check it out again today...

John,

Peter at Hsu had been dropping hints at the Hsu Research forum for while about something exciting on-the-works this year from Dr. Hsu and for those who would attend T.H.E. Show in Vegas, they would be in for a "new surprise".

Keep us posted if you attend again and get a better read on those prototypes.

Hmm this is interesting. I'm guessing this sub is meant to paired with the MBM-12 then. I find it hard to believe they could get everything wanted out of that small of a box. But still very interesting.

I had a friend call me about the Hsu room and this sub. He said it was pretty amazing, and that the Hsu crew is pretty tight lipped about it.

Wish I was there this year!

This is indeed interesting

10Hz? Damn.

Hmmm I looked on the HSU forum and nothing. But there was mention of a new business model but I have no idea what that would mean.

Update:

I got some pictures and info that I'll post tonight. There is also an update of the bookshelf speaker that looked (very nice wood veneer) and sounded amazing for the price...

You didn't happen to hear or feel a fan blowing, did you?...

I just spoke to Ray and he told me about this thing. I already put an email into HSU to get on the waiting list.

I also found another victim from our test run on Sunday.

LOL Michael, I think that after we knocked that one picture of the shelf during WOTW, the last thing you need is another subwoofer!

Well, can't quite figure out how to resize the picture so the attachment comes out correctly. As oneeyeblind speculated, there was one Mid Bass Module and 2 prototype subs. The cumulative effect was staggering!

John

And no, no fan or rotary unit...

Thanks AnthemAVM. The room was dark and the subs were pushed back against the wall. Also, the Hsu folks weren't thrilled about any photos...

Not thrilled about photos? They look like boxes, where's the secret? Judging by the size, this is very exciting news.

I dont understand anything..mid-bass-module that goes flat to 10hz? 10 hz is not midbass is it? How much decibels does it produce at 10hz?
the mid bass module has nothing to do with the new HSU subs that go to 10hz

True. The separate module (which covers from 50 to 150Hz) was working in conjunction with the new subs. The gunshots in the showdown in "Open Range" felt like gut punches. Unbelievable combination of output AND extension...

Umm, think about this. Unless they stepped up to use an 18" driver, modifying the response so that you get flat to 10hz would mean terriblly reduced headroom in all bass frequencies. You can't cheat physics.

What Steve said.

Is it possible that this new sub is to be used in conjunction with the MBM-12?

Possible that it covers frequencies from 10 - 50hz range?

Thats what I'm assume but I'm dobuting you can get enought output from just one sub your will need mutlples I'm sure.

I gotta say I have no idea whats going on with HSU they been on a very different path for a while now its not making much sense to me.

Isn't speculation fun.

Dr HSU has put out great products before, and I am sure he wants to show people like JL and SVS, that he is the best.

I am really excited.

What is the fascination with 12 inch drivers. Those subs don't look big enough to reproduce 10 hz at a level that would matter.
