As some of you know, I was able to snag one of the 5080's at the sweet price at BB last month. Getting it was kind of a surprise, even to me. I got it home and hid it downstairs until Christmas morning, and did not let ANYONE go downstairs to see what it was. I ran it for a week down there, burning in.
So when I got it upstairs and hooked in, it was quite a surprise for my wife. Her first response- and she is NOT a videoholic like us!- was, "Oh my God, that looks good!" This replaced our Grand Wega III (an LCD projection), which was a great TV for it's time, but the Kuro is indeed a step up. Enough of a step that even my wife saw the difference- and liked it.
Well, we got to talking, and decided we should go a bit bigger. So I called Roman on Friday, last week. I am pretty sure he got it out that day, because I got a call from the shipper yesterday to expect it today. The shipper called today before delivery so I could run home and meet him (always nicer than waiting in the two hour window they give you!). Could not have been smoother- delivery guy was professional and helpful. Brought it right into my garage (it was snowing, so I appreciated that).
An hour or so getting it put together, and it was running. VERY slight buzz, one you can only hear when you are next to the panel (and that seems to have diminished now, BTW. Still something there, but hardly decernible). Hooked it up to the burn in disk, and away we go! No dead/stuck pixels showing.
So now I am home, it has been on 6 hours or so. Like I said, a bit quiter than when first powered up, and still looking good. Thanks again to Roman- great deal, fast shipment, no hassles- a pleasure from my point of view. His shipping company is great- professional, on time, and works with you so you do not have to sit on your butt waiting for them. If you are on the fence about "mail order", your fears are wholly unfounded!
So, a question for all you 6010 owners...
There is the gloss black around the panel. Does your panels pixels go right to the edge, or is there a portion of the panel with no pixels showing? I have about 1/8 of an inch at the top, and a good 1/2 inch on the sides, and maybe 1/4 an inch at the bottom. Normal?
Thanks!
