What's the current state of lcd's + gaming?

Is motion blur reduced enough in newer sets that they can (at least almost) keep up with plasmas? I'm torn as to what I should get. I'd like to use an hdtv as a pc monitor and play online fps's such as FEAR and COD4 multiplayer as well as watch movies of course. From what i understand plasmas are smoother for gaming but they can burn in. But if lcd's have motion blur and ghosting then what's the right choice? Am I stuck with my 21" crt for a few more years or is there a viable hdtv alternative? The Samsung lnt5265f looks promising but if it gets all smeared looking when I move around in fps's then I can't have it. Still too early for big screen pc gaming?

I have been using the Sharp LC32D62U for about 4 months as my primary computer monitor. 75% of my computer use is for gaming...I have not had even a whisper of disappointment, I love it!. I mostly play FPS, I just completed CoD4 last month, and Crysis last week. I do not play multiplayer online, where the ghosting/blurring is most detrimental. My screen does not have a 120Hz panel (only 60Hz), and it's rated response time is a modest 8ms...but I do not have any complaints from my practical experiance.

Check the link in my sig for more details.

CoD4 runs like a champ even on budget lcd's. F.E.A.R is a 30fps game and runs slightly worse than a 60fps game like CoD4, from motion blur to obviously...the framerate. To get the best out of gaming, I'd suggest getting a 120hz set like the Samsung 71 series and crank up the Auto Motion plus to high. It reduces motion blur and makes 30fps games look like 60fps (I recently tested out FEAR and both expansions). FEAR never looked better.

yeah, I use 32D62U as well for my 360 and I don't have any complaints about it. Haven't seen any ghosting or lag with this thing. I used to use an NEC lcd to game on and that thing had crazy ghosting.

Thanks for the replies. As far as FEAR being 30fps thats not a factor since I play on pc and tend to get 80fps+ at the settings I use. It's good to know there are lcds that do well in this area . I'd like to get a 120hz set but I'm limited to about $2100 tops and don't want to go under 50" if I can help it. That's the main reason I'm so curious about the samsung 52" 5265f since it's the only 1080p lcd I could find within my price range that met my minimum size requirement. Also, 60hz should be adequate for framerates. Anyone here happen to have tried this model (5265f) and compared it to crt's\\plasmas\\other lcd's as far as blur goes?

Anybody else have experience with the 71 series and gaming? I'm looking to get a 46" version.

OP: 46" isn't that much smaller than your minimum 50" requirement. Why not spend just a tad more for a higher quality set, but slightly smaller size?
