Do you play Blu-ray movies on your PS3

A similar poll was created in Blu-ray software forum and the numbers are tremendously skewed to one side. Some people mentioned that the numbers would be drastically different if the poll was created in the gaming section so I figured I would find out.

I am aware that some of you also visit the Blu-ray software section, but I am sure there are plenty here that don't so anyway......

Do you or don't you buy and/or rent Blu-rays for your PS3?

Me persoanlly, when I bought my PS3, I bought for a dual purpose role, gaming machine and Blu-ray player and I have bought more movies than games. Not that there haven't been some amazing games created, I have always just bought more movies than bought games. I currently have about 15 movies and 4 games (Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm, COD4 and Uncharted).

Yes!

Yep, mainly Blu-ray movies and trailer downloads at this point. May get into gaming soon, but I mainly intended on my PS3 to be exclusively a movie player more than a gaming machine.

Yeah, I play both Blu-ray movies, but mostly games and regular DVD's.

Just got mine a week ago and I've started out very skewed towards the games but my intention is to use it for all movies (BD & DVD & streamed HD-MPEG2 from my computer) also. I just ordered Plaent Earth on Blu Ray so the collection begins....

5 games and 3 blu ray's.

So far used every function of the PS3.

I wouldn't have gotten the PS3 yet if it didn't play BD's.

Bought it for the home theater but ended up getting back into gaming.

Bought it for BD playback. I have a few games too.

Of course!

I've also taken advantage of the Remote Play features, since I also have a PSP that I've had for the past year or two. That connection does do a great job together, especially now that Sony announced that it will allow you to rip BD movies and stick those on a Memory Stick Duo. I'm definitely all for that. That will definitely make the UMD format obsolete, if it isn't already. Nobody answered my question, as far as whether or not UMD movies can be beamed on to the PS3 hard drive and upscaled to 1080p at all. Those should be easily just as fun to watch than Blu-ray on the PS3.

Yes, I play Blu-Ray and games on my PS3.

What a one sided poll.

Own it for the games, love it for the games, love it even more for the added bonus of Blu-Ray playback. I can't wait for my five free ones to show up, Pirates of the Carribean and The Patriot in particular. Plus I've got Casino Royale on the way for demo material to my friends Now I just wish I had a projector instead of my 32" Aquos

Ive only watched a Bluray movie on mine once. It was ok, but not good enough to make me run out and pay $40 a movie. If the video rental place aaround here starts renting them (I live in a small town) then i'd watch more.

Check out Amazon, they've got some good deals. The Fifth Element (Remastered, not the original craptastic transfer) for $16.00, I nabbed Casino Royale for $20, and I think there were a few other DVD priced buys. They had a BOGO deal going on a certain selection of titles not long ago, including the awesome Kingdom of Heaven.

netflix!

The only reason I decided to buy this was because it was a 2-in-1 (games and movies) for me that Sony was subsidizing. At 6 BD games and counting!

For me, the purchase of the PS3 was an impulse buy after acquiring a 60" HDTV last Christmas (2006). I hadn't done any console gaming for four years prior but have now bought 8 PS3, 3 PS2 and downloaded 2 PSN games. I've only rented Blu-Ray movies since I rarely watch a movie more than once.
I'm thoroughly enjoying this machine. It's not often you can purchase something for less than the cost to manufacture it.

Mine was actually a forced decision, believe it or not. After one week of owning an HD DVD player, Warner Bros. made that big announcement that has almost made that player obsolete, and felt that I needed to go format neutral, and I've been told that the PS3 was not only a great game console, but also the best Blu-ray player to date, outside of maybe Panasonic's DMP-BD50 up and coming. After owning the 40GB PS3 for the past couple of days, it seems like this may be the way to go for a lot of things entertainment, games and movies alike. Even tho I've owned the X360 for a year and a half, the PS3 makes me think different now.

10 PS3 games & 80-something Blu rays and growing....I need to re-visit my youth and resume collecting baseball cards or something. Much less expensive!
I originally bought the PS3 to watch blu-ray movies but my girlfriends brother bought me Call of Duty 4 for Christmas and I am now hooked on games. I would have never bought a game for myself.

The internet is your friend.

Amazon is great place to get Blu-ray most of the time.

I never pay more than 20-22 bucks for mine.

Oh, I have 30 movies and 4 games.

I bought my PS3 on launch for games and got Talladega Nights with it. After I saw the clarity of movies I started buying them

Up till now my PS3 has mainly been used as a Blu-Ray player versus gaming rig. The 3 Pirates movies and the Blade Runner 5-disc edition are the crown jewels of my collection to this point.

I've rented a few games for my PS3, but have yet to buy any for the last 8 months or so. Of course that's mainly due to working in a rental environment and getting free game rentals. Anything I want to play I just pick up from work.

Although I'm quite tempted to pick up Uncharted and Folklore for my own. Those I could play over and over.
