What happened to the HD HBO VOD on Comcast? It's back!

Do you still have HD VOD [Video On Demand] shows for HBO with Comcast in your area? I just noticed that HBO is missing in the HD On Demand section. All the other premiums channels are there with their HD On Demand choices. Only HBO is missing.

There used to be two ways to navigate to VOD HBO HD...
  • HD On Demand > Premium Channels > HBO is missing
  • Premium Channels > HBO On Demand > HBO HD is missing

I am in the Richmond Virginia area.

It's gone in Seattle too. I think HBO is pulling the HD on Demand content. I found this article in May: http://www.tvpredictions.com/hbodemand051007.htm

Thanks for replying. Sad to know I am not alone.

It should be allowed on the HDMI boxes. Curse you HBO!

last time I dug around VOD I didn't find much.

Mostly PPV, encore and TCM oldie movies.

And a couple CSI's, a few Comedy Cent, some Cartoon net.
Of course, the usual educational/nature stuff that's kinda old.

That's not much exaggeration.

Seems to me the amount of VOD has gone down dramatically
in the mpls area. Not that I used any of it much.

HD VOD often means 4:3 letterbox(or "portraitbox") HD.
I guess with zooming I don't distort the picture.

As far as HBO, it's just easier to go through the guide once in a while.
HBO VOD is largely old movies I've already seen. And most are not in HD.

I really don't see the hype for VOD. I guess if you just put the kids to bed and don't care that much you'll find something.

Just checked our On Demand, HBO is there among the premium channels. Didn't check every category, but under Movies, 49 HBO movies were there.

I am a Comcast HD & HBO subscriber in Atlanta.

I noticed that HBO is no longer listed under the HD on Demand, Premium Channels. I chatted with Comcast on 01/10/08 and the rep said:
"Sorry the listings for HBO HD has been removed by HBO."

I sent an email to HBO yesterday but have not heard back.

I'll have to check mine, that would suck. I wonder if they pulled from FioS VOD too.

Edit: Yep, gone here... grr.

I checked last night, HBO HD OnDemand still active for me. I tried a movie, it worked fine.

I remember that article on multichannel. What is funny is that since Comcast doesn't encrypt OnDemand here, I could just start up HBO OnDemand and record it on my PC using my OnAir GT TV Tuner that can record HD over clearQAM. Why that's even easier to get it on the internet, instead of analog component outputs, because there aren't any consumer solutions to record to the PC via a component input. So HBO wants to stop the harder way to get HD ondemand to the internet. Idiots. They are barking up the wrong tree. They need to yell at comcast to encrypt their HD ondemand AND encrypt component outputs. THEN it would be very hard.

My CSR said there must be a problem at the headend and that they need to send a tech out to my house.

Just so they can charge you for the visit! It sound like HBO HD ondemand has been pulled by HBO. The non-HD HBO ondemand still exists, but no more HD.

This is not a Comcast problem. All of the HBO HD On Demand content simply ended on 01/01. I have Charter and it went away too. I have noticed that there is now Cinemax HD On Demand, which wasn't there before. Perhaps HBO/Cinemax only has the capacity of doing a certain number of HD On Demand shows at once?

Pulled here too! As an effort to keep thier HD content competitive with the Satellite companies they did add FreeZone HD OnDemand, it features select programming from MOJO, Music Choice, Oxygen and Sundance channels. They currently only have 18 programs total from the choices above, Music Choice has like five music videos to choose from :/

I watched Alpha Dog on HBO HD OD, Wow that was a great movie! I was looking forward to more movie besides the Holiday fare they had. Something about sitting down and starting an HD movie when I wanted to was nice, although I have that option when I record on my DVR, But we have several HDTV's and we don't have DVR's on all of them.

I don't have it anymore either. Sucks, won't be watching any HBO shows on demand anymore I guess. I don't see any valid reason for why HBO would do this. They are already getting battled by SHOTIME, and now they are just giving viewers another reason to choose SHOTIME over them.

Gone here now, last time I checked had to have been the last night it was there.

Man, this would be a killer for me if I was choosing a premium service to subsribe to, no HD on demand!

All aboard the corporate greedwagon.

It's been missing since the new year here in Portland as well.

Just got off the phone with Comcast..The CSR said it was HBO`s decision, and that they(HBO) were making technical improvements and would be back up...no timeline. I then asked for the supervisor. Ha(!)..he didn`t know why they pulled it or when it would be back. If I`d asked to speak with a 3rd Comcast rep, I probably would have gotten a third and different answer...

Gone in Chicago as well. Is it possible they signed some exclusive deal with a satellite provider who's working on VOD?

EDIT: just saw the link above, more likely explanation

They are morons, don't even waste a day or your time with that

Well, HBO's actions on this cost them a subscriber. I chose to vote with my wallet. I enjoyed the few HD movies they offered on the On Demand System. Actually, I've been looking for a good reason since the Soprano's ended, and this was it.

looks like HBO HD on-demand is back

Where? What Comcast offers varies wildly by location.

Still gone from FiOS.

Hey, what do you know - it is back! Here on Comcast in the Chicago area, anyway.

Series include:
  • Bill Maher
  • Entourage
  • Inside Series
  • The Sopranos
  • The Wire
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm
  • Hung
  • Sex and the City
  • True Blood

And yes, last night's Entourage, True Blood, and Hung are available this morning.

There are 45 movies listed, and assorted comedy and documentary specials. Lots of older stuff, but some new stuff as well.

Can I really erase all of my HD-HBO content from my DVR? Will this stick around? I noticed that the first episode of "True Blood" is supposed to stay available until 10/12.

Not available on Charter yet...but what is new....
HBO HD on Demand in the past was JUST The Sopranos

There is NOTHING on their website to say there is ANY HBO HD on Demand
