Bachelor Party
The Great Outdoors

One Crazy Summer
Weird Science
Real Genius
Fletch
Stripes (Theatrical)

I'm sure there are many more 80's greats that I'm forgetting but at this stage in the game its pretty lame these have not been out yet.

Would love the bolded movies.

I'd add the following:

Splash (at least Disney did right by their animated mermaid... )

At least "Better Off Dead" is done.

I've just done a bit of searching on various titles, wondering if they've been released yet. I was looking for

True Lies
Twins
The Andromeda Strain

Then I realised, these are all Universal titles! Does anyone know what's going on at Universal?

Some other Universal titles I'd buy:
Brewster's Millions
The Secret of My Success
Harry/Bigfoot and the Hendersons
Batteries not included
The Burbs
Kindergarten Cop
Bowfinger
The Watcher

Another vote here for:

True Lies

Titan AE

Real Genius

Over the Hedge

I really don't see how several of those are not on BD yet, especially like Over the Hedge.

The picture isn't all that bad for a conventional DVD, keeping in mind Local Hero was an indie, and so wasn't shot on the finest grain stock.

Still I'm hoping someone - WB, Criterion, Twilight Time, Olive - steps up to the plate.

If WB ever starts making MoD Blu-rays, even that would be acceptable.

(Alas, the HD version HDNet Movies has shown has major soundtrack issues - there are times the musical soundtrack is faded down to near zero, and that's just not correct.)

To my list, I'll also add:

Johnny Dangerously

The Majestic

It is on BD. It's an import at Amazon and Amazon.co.uk. It's region B so you'll need an all region BD player (unless you live in "region B" with a region B player).

I want "Bats" on Blu-Ray. It's a charming B-movie from 1999 and the first film to be mixed in Dolby Digital Surround EX.

Assembling thumbnails for the Review older films here: 1979 and earlier thread, I've collected a list of "color films that might look really great on Blu-ray."

Important notes:

  • I do NOT say these are all great films, just that they might look very pretty.
  • I have no way of knowing the condition of the surviving film elements.
  • I make no claim as to the economic feasibility of a restoration effort. Possibly restoring minor older films just doesn't pay. Although you never know what is going to appear: Stars and Stripes Forever (1952) looks fine, but was anyone clamoring for it?

I have a dozen pre-1960 titles in mind and I'll post them one by one. Not that later years don't have films I'd like to see on Blu-ray, but this first list is from the "golden age" of Technicolor, with that rich, saturated and (dare I say it?) three-dimensional look.

Maybe we can do further lists by decade thereafter.

Your thoughts and nominations are always welcome.

The Naked Jungle (1954).

Because you can't have too many films with "naked" in the title starring Eleanor Parker. Also with Charlton Heston, very manly.

It's a woman's romance story, moving into action/adventure in the last reel.

Review: The Naked Jungle (1954)
