In spite of all the gloom and doom for RPTV technology, there still is a bright side. Green is in.
Crutchfield just did this test on the TVs' they sell regarding power consumption;

Cnet has another list. This is NOT the orginal article from a year ago, but a much updated version with models up to Nov. '07;
http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6475_7-...3.html?tag=nav
(Crutchfield based the test on 6/hrs a day and Cnet based it on 8/hrs. Both sites used $.10/kwh)
Observations;
1. The Panasonic 59" Plasma & the Sharp 65" LCD gets the 'Power Hog' award when on,
2. The Sharp 65" LCD & the older Mits 62" get that award when 'off',
3. The Samsung LED RPTVs' gets the 'Green' award for the lowest comsumption for per sq. inch (and for most bang for the buck),
4. Ten of the 12 highest 'Power Pigs' are Plasmas (no surprise),
5. The power consumption (and orginal cost) between RPTV and Flat Panel (both technologies) can be as high as 3x more,
6. The vast majority of the sets are 'Green' when off (standby),
7. Many 32" LCDs' draw as much power as 50 to 61" RPTVs' do,
8. RPTVs' have the best bang for the buck, both to buy and to run,
9. There is a 155 watt difference between 46/47" LCD panels,
There are additional links regarding power consumption, but I find this most interesting;

Notice that XBox360 & PlayStation 3 draw almost as much as a smaller TV (almost 200 watts).
