Spyder2 pro or Spyder3 for calibration?

Has anyone used one of these to calibrate a front projector ?
I read the operating manual for the spyder3 and it isn't easy to see if this software is practical or not.

This depends upon what you are trying to calibrate. The Spyder3 has some big advances of the S2, but there are some limitations, as well (in our testing).

I'm thinking D65 tracking and gamma curve

Sorry, but I was apparently being unclear. It matters what type of display you are trying to calibrate. For an LCD? It's a good upgrade. For a CRT? There are some limitations. Beyond this, it depends...

It's the pj-tx200 LCD projector from Hitachi.

Yes then you would be good with the Spyder3

Whats the deal on platinum versions?
Do you mean the Spyder2 platinum? If so they are just a hand selected Spyder2 like yours was. I have all 3 in our lab Spyder2, Spyder2platinum and a Spyder3.

They are or are not doing Platinum for Spyder3?
I have not heard anything about a S3 platinum but if they did I guess it would be the same process as for the S2 just pick out the few that out perform the rest and charge more.

Care to share why S3 is better than S2 for Hitachi TX-100?

Speed, mostly. It is still not as fast as the Display2/LT, but it is much closer than it was previously.

When you speak about speed, what are we talking about? How much time can a full calibration take with both systems?
It is a couple of seconds faster for a low level reading. Long enough to notice, but not a big deal in the overall scheme of things.

The Spyder2 can take 8-12 seconds at low light to get a good reading. The Spyder3 is only 4-6 seconds.

Bear5k , I paid 5 months ago 450 to have my TV ISF calibrated , its a HDILA JVC hd-70fh96 , It was time for a new bulb and i put it in 2 weeks ago. It seems alittle off , and i want it to get calibrated again , but id rather save the money and get the best probe without spending over 300.00 What do you think is right for me. I like doing this stuff and learned about gamma and grayscale when he was doing my TV , which was very nice of him.

thanx Chris

We used to recommend the Spyder2 meter, but we now recommend the DisplayLT (about $130 from discount retailers). The LT is really the best buy/value on the market for HT use. If you can spend a hair over $300 (in total), then you can get a really good software package to go with it... Otherwise, HCFR is your only alternative within your budget.

Different software, same hardware.

is the software worth it? i want the most easy friendly , also im running vista ultimate 64 bit. some 32bit programs run fine. Or is the free program the way to go.
You can try our app out yourself, though only with a simulated meter.

We have developed and tested CalMAN v3 on XP32, XP64, Vista32 and Vista64 so you should be fine.

Not really. You want to use a CRT-based calibration table for them, and the S3's lack of that is a limitation for plasmas.
