Other than the Integra DTC-9.8 pre-pro..

Suggestions under $1500.00.

Does it exist & have quality?

Pairing to a Emotiva MPS-2.

Thanks,

Christian

No dice there. Integra is sold via dealers only, usually installers. There are a few dealers in Canada for the DTC 9.8. The Onkyo Pro equivalent is not sold in Canada.

Thats too bad about the pro. Is that higher than the 905?

I meant the Onkyo Pro PR-SC885P. The 905 is a receiver, aka AVR.

Sorry, missed it. We'll I guess I could try and round up the Onkyo Pro PR-SC885POnkyo. I'm guessing it would be under 1600 and have the HDMI eh.

I'll check out the links and dig around.

Have some Rocket 850's on the way and looking at completing the rest of the system.

I've got a budget of 2k for my Amp and Pre and don't need the tuner function.

Love the Emotiva products but there HDMI 1.3a doesn't come out until end of Feb/March
post #13 of 29
Given your budget the Emotiva is the best fit. If you want to spend more, the next tier up is the $2K price range: Rotel, NAD, Integra, AudioLab or Denon Pro. Not all of these support 8 channel PCM and only the Integra supports the high bit rate codecs. The Emotiva LMC-2 is rumoured to support the high bit rate decoders at a very low price.

Waiting may result in more options.

several Marantz users are happy with 7002 as prepro. Ilooked in this range as well and gave up, got a Marantz 8002. Now idont even want a seperate amp...for now that is

I second the Onkyo PR-SC885P. I have it paired with an Emotiva IPS-1
and its sounds amazing. For the price there is no other pre/pro that
comes close.

HDMI 1.3a, DTS HD MA, Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital +, Audyssey Cal.,
Satellite Radio, Reon Processing, to name a few features.

Good point, what were your reasons for not going with the Integra DTC-9.8 pre-pro?

Was it only price, they are fairly close in price eh?

Guys, Some advice....

What are the real reasons for going seperates in your views.

Is the power and sound really, in all honesty that noticable for the investment and efforts??

I was orginally debating going with the Onkyo TX-NR905 which of course does not support the true HDMI 1.3 audio but does have the video and the audio HDMI can be worked around so isn't a deal breaker. This amp is around 2k and then I'm done.

What I'm really looking for is quality.

Going Emotive IPS-1 for $1100.00 shipping and taxes and the Onkyo PR-SC885P proably around $2200 taxes in for a grand total of $3300-$3500 I guess you need to ask yourself is the extra $1k-$1500 a good investment for what you really end up with.

Guys can you assist with these thoughts? I know this is not really the forum for this debate but it is related so if you could help that would be great.

THanks

Christian

(Christiano) the onkyo 905 does support the new hd audio codecs, and i'm also wondering about going seperates with the IPS-1 and a pre or just go for the denon 3808. Just wondering if there's going to be a difference in sound quality with between the two. I'm using montior 11 v5 for the fronts with a cc0390 center, if that makes a difference.

How much for the Denon 3808?

Just wait for the Sherwood Newcastle R972 - that should have a Cdn street price of around $2k

I just like the look of the Onkyo better than the Integra.

The Onkyo is $200 more, because it comes with a rack mount kit.

how about the Yamaha RX-V1800/3800 ?

To me the sound was definately noticeable when I went to seperates.
I just starting hearing things that I didn't hear before when playing
certain media(mostly movies). I originally was using a Denon 3805
as a pre/pro which was good but once I replaced it with the Onkyo it
was no contest.

The Onkyo is HDMI 1.3 and supports all the latest advanced audio.

I did an IPS-1 and an 885 for $2399 + shipping. I bought the IPS-1 in
August when Emotiva was having a special for $1000 w/free shipping.
The Onkyo was $1399 + $20 shipping but I waited 3 months to get it and
it was worth the wait.

Christiano....any luck with finding an Integra 9.8 or an Onkyo 885?
I'm also looking for one of either of those pre/pros. I'm also up here in the great white north lol...but haven't had any luck.
Have you found any online dealers?

Anyone else know of any Canadian online dealers for Integra 9.8 or the Onkyo 885.

Thanks for any help.

Good choice on the Emo/Onkyo. Imo if you do plenty of home theater
multi-channel listening that combo is amazing.

Keep us posted.

Christiano, how do you like the new 850's? I'm anxious to hear your review.

Thanks,
Trey
