Oldest TV you're still using

I have a 27" Sony Trinitron CRT TV in my living room that has been there since 1992. That darn thing refuses to break down. I wonder if HDTVs have that kind of longevity.

sony triniton 21 inch from 1986.... picture is still flawless and nothing has ever gone wrong with the TV...getting a panny 50 inch pz750 next wek though!!!!

I have a 1986 MIT CS-2051R 20" square screen 'dyna-black' or something phosphor. It's not flat screen. Pic-tube is great, but some electronics are bad--tuner got lightning zapped about 10 yrs ago, all the analog knobs for contrast, treble, etc., are shot -- but I just use it with the cable box and remote in the bedroom ( I guess because it cost 550.)

I have a 19'' mitsubishi thats been used everyday since june of 1984.The sleep timer was a cool feature back then.The picture looks as good as it did on day one.

A Fisher (Sanyo) 26" studio-standard monitor purchased in 1986 but manufactured in 1985. It did break down once when it wouldn't power on but was fixed with a new chip. Picture is still excellent.

Samsung 25" SDTV bought in 1989,it's my fathers tv and it's now retired to the den area where i watch it from time to time! still going strong!

I have a SONY KV-1212 in my kitchen that I use daily. Works great.
It has continuous tuning UHF which would date it sometime in the
early 70's. A friend rescued it from the trash for me a few year ago.

Then I have a SONY KV-1924 in the living room that I bought new in 1982.
Has been in regular use since then. Still works great.

I also have an RCA 8T240 10" B&W from 1948 that I restored that works
pretty well but is not in regular use. It is weird watching TV on a
round 10-inch screen in B&W. It also does a good job heating the room

This last year, I gave away a 1991 JVC 26" CRT, and a 1997 32" Sony Trinition CRT.

They were both working fine, no component inputs on them, I compared them, side by side with a Toshiba 32" flat screen,CRT I bought a couple years back.

Result?

The Toshiba wiped the floor with them!!

I enjoy doing comparisons with all the different sets I have, just to see the differences.

Those picture tubes age my friends, they still work and "look" good, but they clearly are not putting out the same image they did when they were new.

Well in comparison it's not that old,but my main monitor is a SONY 27 inch Trinitron from 2001.Previous to that I had a 27 inch Mitsubishi which I used from 1992 to 2001.
The Sony is on an average of 10 hours a day and has been since I got it back in '01,and it still looks great! I'm now running a SONY Blu-Ray player through it and it's spectacular!
Blacks are really black,colors are natural and no dead pixels or motion blur.
I still love my Direct View CRT.....
I'm planning to get a new HD flat-panel very soon,but until then...THE TUBE RULES!

I have a Sony Trinitron KV-1922 that was purchased in 1978 and still has a great picture. The TV was repaired once a couple of years ago to correct a problem with the picture bowing in slightly. The TV is hooked up to a Comcast digital box and is still watched on an occasional basis.

I retired a 1986-ish Zenith a couple years ago. One of my grandmothers is still using an awful Zenith console TV that I would guess is from the early 80s.

I have in my bedroom a 1983 19" Zenith Advanced System 3 with Space Command. The picture is surprisingly very good. Everything is displayed crystal clear and sharp with amazing true-to-life color. It looks even better than a Sony Trinitron I threw in a dumpster several years ago. I also like the real wood cabinet, they just don't make tvs like this anymore.

I also have a 1957 RCA Victor Deluxe color television with 21" round kinescope. The picture looks ok also. Really warms up the room with all those tubes!

13" Philco at work, don't know the age, but it is color.

Anyone remember Dumont? My dad had a Dumont. I had a Zenith 27 (I think) with a zoom feature that blew up everything in the picture to complete distortion. Loved it.

Did you buy that thing new? That was the year I was born!

a 1992 Pioneer 45 inch rear projection which runs about 8-10 hours aday and never had a problem. Looks as good as it did when I bought it.

Have a 1951 Motorola. Not black and white, green and white ha ha. Back of tube that sticks out from cabinet was damaged while moving. Afraid to plug it in now.

Have complete 1951 HT setup. Wind up 8mm movie camera, Reel to Reel 8mm projector, Combo phonograph/ Am/SW radio cabinet and the Motorola with Bilt-in Roto-tenna!

A 27" JVC in my bedroom from around 2000. It has a cheap DVD player hooked up to it via component cables (at the time the JVC was one of the few sets that had component inputs). It's basically for my wife to watch DVD's before she goes to bed.

Mine is an RCA CTC-11, 21 inch 'roundie'; beautiful video--the heck with HDTV or even DTV; I'll get a converter and keep using the CTC-11

I wish I had friends that have the same attitude as you. I want to keep using SDTVs because HDTVs are way too expensive for me. But my friends keep pressuring me to get one because they claim that I need to live in the 21st century. I always like to say "the heck with HDTV," but people end up telling me I'm crazy.

1990 26" analog JVC CRT, that is used daily and still has a great picture too.

Memories of childhood! My dad bought one of these round picture tube RCAs as our first color TV. NBC (owned by RCA) was the only network with color programming but it was pretty limited except for specials like the Tournament of Roses parade. Seeing the NBC peacock was a treat because it meant the next show was broadcast "in living color". In 1961 the re-titled "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" moved to NBC and was joined by "Bonanza" and Sunday nights became the TV highlight of the week.

A Toshiba CW34X92 in my family room. A floor model which I purchased in 2000 for $1100 at the Good Guys (Man, do I miss that store!). Still going strong.

1984 RCA 25" Colortrak 2000 FJR2010T

It whines when I first turn it on but quiets down after a couple minutes.

It has a great picture and great color.

The remote uses the old pulse code modulated signal so I can't use one of the new universal remotes.

1985 NEC CT-1901A.

Bought it new in 1985. Great picture, great color but my eyes are getting old and I can't read subtitles anymore so I'm thinking larger screen. I just came to this site this week to research my options. This forum has given me a new appreciation for my old workhorse and I might just squeeze another few years out it, if only the remote doesn't crap out. It's held together now with packing tape. I could have gotten another CT-1901A years ago a garage sale for 30 bucks...mint and didn't and kick myself still.

I have a small 13" Black and White TV made by FORD.

It was my fathers when he was young.

I am not sure about the year it was made. Probably 1960's(early 60's is my guess).

Still uses the Vacuum tube to start(you can see it glow in the back), and still works just fine.

I came to avsforum because we are considering an LCD tv, but I feel more comfortable with old familiar things, so here I am... watching the season premiere of Jericho in the background on a 1983 Sony KV-1356R, which has been used every day since we got it and still works fine. It's got a lovely "wood-grain effect cabinet, too!

Behind it is a Sony KV-2553MT, from 1992, which recently began having picture and sound problems after faithful daily service since we got it. Actually, that TV is why I'm here, trying to figure out whether it's worth fixing or whether it's time to finally get an LCD like everyone else.

But for tonight, I guess I can hide out on the antiques thread .
