Oldest TV you're still using - Page 3

Just gave our 15 year old 27 inch Toshiba to my Mom. Much better pic than her 8 year old 27 inch Sharp. I informed her if the new/old Sony (KV-32HS420) goes out, I'll just take her Sharp.

1995 Sony KV-32XBR100

32" 4000LB monster, power cuts in and out, power light flashes, the tuner box is missing. Hanging on to it till my 46XBR9 gets here........

Just bought a kv32xbr450 (made in 2.1k). Pretty clapped out tube but the electronics won't let it die... The light is dim from it but it still works well in a darkened biased lit room. This xbr was something that I remember drooling over so badly. At the time, outside of the plasmas, there was nothing that could touch these xbr sets. The xbr200/250/400/450/800, wow! Then! Those 9xx sets... And the HS final series... Good bye Sony.




That's a Pioneer laser disc player and our tremendous laser disc collection in the pic. There are some reflections on the screen, not scratches.


Just died was a 27" Zenith Inteq (R.I.P) made in 2k Ten years of good service for a 1k$. Not that it was perfect. Oh no, overscan and a tilt to the picture of enough degrees that you had to ask yourself whether you wanted to make it 'overscan ' enough so that you couldn't see that head/foot bar at all. And the component input had insoluble color issues--muted.

The oldest TV I am still using is a 1984 25 inch Philco color floor model TV, with remote I might add.

This tv is still good and works well, also the wood cabinet gives it is flash look for sure and was the reason I kept it besides it still working. Yes, I do have 2 55 inch flat screen TV's for the HD of course>>>

Have a 1993 GE 27" I recently demoted to a coon-ass PoutP TV (i.e. alongside my main TV, got the term from my Louisiana neighbor). Had gotten a green cast so I used it without fear to teach myself how to fully adjust picture service menu settings (ironically mostly used B&W to adjust color). Degauss circuit went out so I cannibalized a non-working 1993 RCA 31" in prep for e-cycle for its chassis which I jumper to the GE to degauss after any repositioning.

Had a late '70's or early '80's RCA 19" knob-tuner TV that I recently donated to a local charity. Tuned it up and it still had a great picture. Was using it for a kitchen TV. I discovered that I had to position the converter box several feet away to eliminate digital noise - makes sense as they weren't designed for digital interference back then ("there's chocolate in my peanut butter!" ).

Oldest crt i have is a 19inch samsung crt that was bought from best buy in 2000,second oldest which i bought from ebay is a 13inch panasonic crt that was made in 1999,27inch rca bought from walmart in 2007,20 icnh emerson crt from walmart in 2007,and my newest one is a samsung 16 inch made in 2007 also bought from ebay.I also have a universal hitachi crt coming from ebay and all crt's are used in my room for sd gaming.

My parents have a 20 inch Sears TV made in 1985. Still works just fine.

I have no plans on moving away from CRT.

My mom's using a Panasonic tube tv, my father he is useing some off brand tube tv and my sister is using a Sony Trinitron tube tv. My parents are still refusing to budge and get an HDTV for the living room or their bedroom and my sister just dont care. The way they see it is as long as they can watch tv they are fine. But they are missing out on the glorious thing called Hi Def! But to each is own as they say.

Well at the small 'relative' size of CRTs it's hard to tell the difference anyway, esp if it's full 480i and using one of the better inputs. Plus good contrast/black levels/brightness and low on motion blur. I couldn't tell a huge difference between a converter box and an HD tuner on my Panasonic 34" widescreen HD CRT at a typical viewing distance. I moved my seating way up to take advantage of HD after I got the HD tuner and it 'effectively' gives me a larger viewing area. Hard to beat the pic quality if not that concerned about size.

Used to have a Teknika from 1980, but I gave it away a few years ago when the input refused to take an outside RF source. Probably could have fixed it thinking about it now though. Meh.

We have late 80s Sony Multi-Region TV that we still use in my basement back home. My oldest current one (if you could even call it a TV) is a green Zenith Data Systems composite monitor. Great for playing some Atari or watching I Love the 80s on! See picture:

I have a Panasonic 32" tube tv at the cottage. Purchased it in 1997. Besides that, the oldest is a 37" Panasonic 720p flatscreen from 2004 in the bedroom.

Nothing beats CRT

In my basement rec room resides a 32" Toshiba SD tv purchased in 1988. In the spare bedroom you'll find a 38" RCA HDTV purchased in 2001. Both of them have been relegated to infrequent use by three Toshiba ccfl lcd tv's, all less than two years old, one used as a computer monitor. All three Toshibas deliver an absolutely fantastic HD picture, rivaled if not occasionly eclipsed by the RCA crt. What a great set it's been. Neither it nor the Toshiba appear to have lost any brightness and both have been problem-and-service-free since new. Am I an astute buyer or lucky or both or what?

All of the old stuff goes to the garage, I have a 27" Toshiba Theaterview. It started to show signs of age when the screen only showed a horizontal line in the middle of the screen. Took out the main board located the vertical IC and scrubbed the pins with acetone. The TV is back up and running, I use an LG VCR/DVD recorder using components and the picture is still awesome.

Also have a LLoyd's VCR and Pioneer Laser Disc 704 along with an old Kenwood receiver KR-6200 all still working perfectly.

Forum newbie here, but with a massive SONY KV-32FVV310 standard resolution crt tv still being used as our main "home theater" monitor. Bought via Crutchfield in 2003 (HDTVs were over my $ budget those days). Still a very nice video presentation via Direct TV. Excellent video thou (IMO) from a standard DVD player. Never needed repair (oops, now I jinked myself).

Inputs switched via an Onkyo TX-DS595 AV receiver powering very old-school Yamaha speakers circa 1980 with replaced cones I did myself. Have a couple of matching Yamaha surround speakers and a Yamaha YST-SW225 subwoofer. Besides a CD player, iTunes audio is fed in from an obsolete but still working 2001 CRT iMac with aprox 20 GB of music.

Yes, I am kinda old school, and a cheapskate. :-)

I'm turning my mother's Imac G4/G5? the one that looks like a lamp into an aquarium. No rush on this one but plan on using the power supply for the pumps and stuff. Utilize the DVD tray for a fish food drawer, put some led's in the mix and hope to have a nice flat screen fish tank. There is a plastics place that can fab up a tank to fit into the bezel it will stick out about 3 inch's from the bezel. Got to let the fish do u turns and such.

Panasonic 19 Inch Tv model ctf1952r mfg date aug 1984 bought oct 1984 in a guest room now with a comcast Dta hooked up to it.

Princeton AF3.0HD Monitor. I'm beginning to (gladly) think this thing might last forever: it's built (and weighs) like a tank. I have to admit even I thought I was crazy to spend almost $5k on this thing when new, but after almost 15 years of use it might have been worth it!

My parents and I still use CRT TVs and VCRs (not recording). My 19.5" Sharp CRT TV (196-M60 model; 76 watts; NTSC) is from January 1996. It is connected with S-video+composite cables and adapter connected to Toshiba W-627 VCR and a DTV Pal DVR.

This Guy has the oldest, over 42 years....

Its a Mitsubishi from '68.

I have a 1984 13" Sharp with remote that both work flawlessly...except I've managed to physically manhandle the cable input enough that you have to position it just so to avoid snow.

I have a 1997 Panasonic 31" XF flat series that has a crystal clear, pin sharp picture with amazing color. I no longer have the remote, but every single code-program remote I have ever owned can work this TV including the entire menu system.

1982 RCA XL-100, 19" CRT set/monitor.
The volume control is bad, but I use a separate sound system anyway.
I feed it with a FTA satellite receiver or with an LG converter box, although I have it's separate VHF (coax) and UHF (twinlead) inputs connected to an antenna system, for NTSC.

(If you want to talk OLD, though.....downstairs, we have a non-functional CRT and Image Detector tube, which were made by Philo Farnsworth's son. They were built using the designs that Farnsworth came up with in high school. Two of these models exist, with the other one being in the Smithsonian.)

Just remember that discarded CRT units, even when "properly recycled," are typically barged to China, where they are disassembled and melted down by poor villagers over open fires. You can imagine the concomitant mercury poisoning, general air pollution, and ultimate filling of landfills with toxic waste.

1981 Sony KV-1945rs covered in about 1/4" of wood dust in the shop. This thing will not die. Bought it with a Nike basketball at a garage sale 20 years ago for $10. Nike basketball doesn't hold air anymore, but the Sony still has a serviceable enough picture for its environment. have a 25" RCA TV/VCR in the wings for when it finally goes dark.

I have a 25"Sony Profeel that I use for a bunch of old video game consoles. The tuner was an optional box if you wanted to watch tv programming. It also has 3 composite video inputs.
I bought this in 1982 and it was pretty cool in its time... Then I picked up a 25 XBR that sits in a spare room with a DVD player and laser disc hooked up to it. That was in 1985. In 1990, I bought a Sony 13 KV-1980R that still works. It's a stereo capable set. Then about 10 years ago, I bought a 36 XBR400 that still gets used occasionally. That thing weighs a ton! I hope it doesn't go out anytime soon...


These are the only crts that I have left that still work. My main tvs are LCDs that I watch HD sources on. It is nice that those old tube sets are still working...
