Other titles due next week are in the top of my queue, so it looks like just Where the Wild Things Are is affected. I wonder if this is related to Warner's release delays for DVDs and BDs? I didn't think Blockbuster was part of that agreement. Maybe just for online customers?

Hmmm, that is interesting all right. I had The Neverending Story at the top of my queue and returned a mailer to my local store last night. This morning instead of shipping me a copy of TNS like would normally happen, they are processing another disc from further down in my queue. Probably not coincidently, TNS is a Warner title... I'm beginning to really dislike Warner Brothers a lot. First they come out with the BS "rental" discs, and now this crap. I'm a friggin' movie renter. I'm not going to buy discs to archive at home no matter what they do. All their policies do to me is create bad will

Now it's showing "Unknown". I wonder what the story is...

Sherlock Holmes still shows as 3/30 which is the correct date.

Yep, Clash of the Titans also went "unavailable" now as well. All Warner titles. Dollars to donuts you'll see Sherlock's status changed before the 30th too. Since the customer service person mentioned "moratorium" in that email reply I think it's clear. All this started because of Redbox's $1 rentals. Does Warner really think that people who rent movies for a dollar are now going to pay $15-$25 to buy them instead of just waiting another month to rent?

Not even, even if it takes 2 mos or longer, there's no way I'm ever spending that sort of money on a BD. I might spend money on a film that I really liked and would watch more than once, or something that's not available in this country, but 99.9% of the releases out there, not a chance.

This whole thing with Where the Wild Things are is very strange. Warner is definitely holding back the rentals or something. The store I'm at received 25 copies of the DVD, but none on blu-ray yet (they will probably be at the store on Thursday). So, they at least received copies of the movie. For online subscribers such as ourselves were are SOL unless they get copies. Blockbuster has been getting copies of Warner titles with zero issues up until Where the Wild Things Are. So, it has to be a Warner thing. They must be holding titles back themselves. This would be unfair treatment to Blockbuster for sure because I am pretty sure they have rental agreements and I am pretty sure in that agreement that it doesn't say anything about holding titles back. Hopefully they won't do the same to Blockbuster as they do to Red Box.

You would think WB or BlockBuster would make some sort on announcement about it?

I guess they are going to keep everyone in the dark.....

The Where the Wild Things Are BD was in stock at my neighborhood BB this morning. By the time I got there, I had read your post and repeated what you said in the foregoing to the store manager. She suggested that maybe your BB just hadn't received their copies yet because they had received their's routinely.

I got Ponyo instead of Where the Wild Things Are because I have a 1 at a time exchange subscription an my nearby BB. I wasn't motivated enough to watch Ponyo immediately so that I could go back this afternoon and get Where the Wild Things Are then.

Usually my store gets movies the Thursday before release date so 5 days ahead of time. It used to be Tuesday, but now the shipping is different. Its either 5 days ahead of 12 days ahead of time. I'm actually going to call to see if they received any so they can hold me a copy. Going to exchange for 2012 today for sure. Ponyo was a really good movie. Its probably more for kids, but it was a very cute story and it is original.

Although I am a big Hayao Miyazaki fan, for some reason I didn't get around to seeing Ponyo in the theater. I am going to try to get it watched tomorrow but haven't worked down to it yet. I think that both Princess Mononoke and Spirited away are Miyazaki's masterpieces, two of the best animated features ever made.

From what I hear those are indeed his masterpieces. I have yet to see them. Hopefully they will be released on Blu-ray sometime soon.

Still no Wild Things on Blu-ray at my store. Damn you Warner! DAMN you!

Finally got Wild Things Blu-ray and I picked up the rental with one of my exchanges!

Has anybody been sent a copy via mail yet?

My regular(1 mi) store only had the DVDs, they weren't even sent any BDs, haven't checked the other locations.

Where the Wild Things Are has finally shown up in the top of my queue. Very Long Wait, though.

Maybe this was just a one-week fluke?

I'm pretty sure Blockbuster received limited copies of this movie all around (in store and online) through Warner which is the reason for the long delay. Warner is getting stingy and an obvious desperation attempt on their part to try and get people to buy instead of rent.

I did see a copy of WTWTA in my store yesterday but not a hint of The Neverending Story or Clash of the Titans. Looks like no stock at all of either of those two for now...

Yeah, it sucks. Most stores do not receive the older movies on Blu-ray. They will receive some, but not all.

Has anyone heard of a policy change where the exchanges are only for four days. Our friends went to exchange and they told them that they only had the movie for 4 days and after that it would be $4.

That is definitely wrong. All exchanges from online mailers do not have a due date. The movies that are exchanged are in place of the mailers and new ones are sent out once the movie(s) are checked in at Blockbuster. Do you know what store this was. Was it corporate owned? The new Blockbuster policy covers all stores now. For the first time, the policies are the same nationwide.

They exchanged it at the store where we take our exchanges, so it did not make sense to me when they told me. I will have to ask them more questions. It may have been that all the movies that you rent outside of the exchange are only for 4 days. I will talk to them and see what else I can find out.

A new feature for (click for site) Blockbuster Express:

NCR: Rent DVDs Online, Pick Up at Blockbuster Express Kiosks

Quote:

NCR Corp. March 11 said it has upgraded the Blockbuster Express Web site so consumers can now rent online up to three DVD movies at a time and pick up at the nearest kiosk - a first among self-serve vendors.

And yes, they have a Blu-ray section!!

True, but I count 21 Blockbuster Express kiosks for the Chicago metro area vs. 3 for my metro area.

doesn't help most people in the city of Chicago though, considering a large percentage don't own cars.

Three in my area but apparently no Blu-ray it seems.

All I did was post new information about a new feature of a service that some folks may find useful. I am so sorry that it will not help you, may I suggest Blockbuster by Mail, click here to sign up. A mailing address and credit card is all that is needed.

wow. I wasn't saying it wasn't a useful feature. I was commenting about the availability in the city of Chicago. Apparently I'm not allowed to comment on my own personal usage. Also considering it's the third largest city in the Blockbuster company area, it does matter.

The Blu-ray selection is small and not many locations have them. The last time I checked you could not find Blu-ray titles on the Redbox site nor Redbox locations that carried Blu-ray. In this respect it appears Blockbuster is one up on Redbox at this point in time.

If I were in your place I would have posted:

There is none in the city of Chicago, there are many in the Chicago metro area. I am very interested in Blockbuster Express and have filled out the request at the Blockbuster Express site to have a kiosk installed near me.

Never really looked into the Redbox thing. My current strategy of loading DVD releases of the last few years, primarily foreign and documentary stuff in the online BB queue, and then exchanging them for new BD releases at the local store has worked very well so far. I get new BD releases much, much quicker that way than waiting for them to be mailed. I was curious if these new kiosks would also be a source of new BDs, I may have to actually check one out in person as in my experience, Blockbuster's "available" tag is often not very accurate, those kiosks might actually have some BDs even though it says they don't online.
