As we've discussed to death here, BB's mailorder turnaround times have never been stellar and still aren't. Nevertheless, I am now receiving the best service from BB I have ever had. Discs almost always arrive within a couple of days of of being shipped. Also, my neighborhood BB store is going great guns. They have hired several more clerks and are getting way more copies of new films on BD. If BB will continue to provide the kind of service I am seeing now, I will be happy, indeed.

In my personal experience the service at the stores is always pretty good, but the employees have a hard time dealing with customer issues relating with Total Access. They simply do not have the means to help since the only thing they deal with are in-store exchanges. The customer service through e-mail and phone has been hit or miss though. It really depends on who you get and the fact that the customer service is overseas does not help. No offense to anyone, but the people from overseas customer service sometimes do not understand the issues we have.

I mailed a movie back to BB over a week ago and they still haven't received it. Anybody else have experience with this? What's my next step? Report it?

Yes, report it.

In hundreds of discs I've rented from them, I've had really just one problem, and with one particular movie!

It never ARRIVED, so I reported it as missing. They said they sent me ANOTHER, and I never received THAT either (!), and finally I got a "Thanks for returning it!" email and I'D NEVER RECEIVED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Very bizarre, I never did get that movie, but this is the one/only problem I've ever had of this nature (lost in the mail) vs. cracked or broken discs which I've had a number of.

One of the reasons I never mail my discs back to Blockbuster anymore. I return them in store. Although I've never had it take that long but it will take one to three days for them to receive the discs (more often more than one day) while Netflix receives it in one day 99% of the time.

I agree that it's better to deal with store personnel when you can than it is to deal with BB's hit or miss telephone customer service. My neighborhood's BB store has improved exponentially in recent weeks, so much so that I almost didn't get the Thor BD when it came out yesterday.

My neighborhood BB received only 4 copies of the Thor BD and I got the last one when I walked into the store 6 minutes after they had opened yesterday. The manager told me customers were standing in line when she opened the store. I wish Dish-BB well but they really need to get more copies of BDs out to my neighborhood store.

I'm getting 3 to 1 dvds from Netflix over Blockbuster. I have a 1 dvd out at a time from both. No store in my area, so I'm out of luck there. It's kind interesting, but to keep up with catalog releases one should really belong to both. The cost per disk is so much higher at BB however.

I put 2 movies in the mail on Monday, they cleared my queue on Tuesday, and 2 replacement Blu-rays arrived today (Wednesday). I don't think that I could ask for faster turn-around by mail than that. It's not always that quick, but it seems to me to be happening more often.

Right now, 91% of the movies in my queue are listed as "available", 8% are listed as "short wait", and 1% say "very long wait". That's a much higher percentage of "available" movies than I've noticed over the last few years. Also, 82% of the movies in my queue are listed as immediately "available" in my local Blockbuster store. I just prefer the convenience of replacement by mail.

I suppose it varys by location, but Blockbuster has improved for me.

I have the one at a time with unlimited exchanges plan. Returned a movie on Sunday, hoping to get Thor shipped on Monday. They shipped Thor today (Wednesday). This is probably the longest I've ever waited for them to ship my next movie but at least I did get the movie I wanted. Hopefully I'll get it by Friday to watch over the weekend.

Did you return it through the mail or to the store? If returning it by mail then the post office has probably lost it. I would report it as a lost disc through the mail. If you returned it to the store then its the employee(s) at the store that made the mistake and failed to check it in.

Yeah, Thor was a big one. I'm not sure about your store, but my store had a Thorathon promotion going on. If you had rented and paid for a $2.99 new release you got a coupon to rent Thor for free. I think this started last week and from what I heard people were lined up outside the store before open waiting to get it. Since a ton of people had the Thor coupon they came to the stores to use it early yesterday.

the three stores by me are the same way. they only have a few copies of the BD version. Typically only 4 to 7 copies. Of course there are several times as many DVD copies and they tell me those are just as hard to get as the BD versions.
I have much better luck with new releases on Netflix. they will send me a new release, 95% of the time and i'll usually receive it on the day of release. With Blockbuster it's been hit or miss by mail, and in store is virtually impossible to get the BD title in the first few weeks unless you get there right as the store opens on release day.

I know with the movie RIo, I tried to get it for four weeks on BD at the BB store and they were never any there.Netflix sent it to me on the first day it was available. That is also how I got Thor yesterday.

Why not call your local store right when they open and ask them to hold you a copy? This works like gold!

Blockbuster does have LOTR to rent on Blu-ray. Its just not the extended editions. My guess is as good as anyone, but this is probably a studio decision, at least for now, to hold back the EE from being rented.

...................

For a new release where they might have a line outside, the store I usually frequent will not hold a title for you. The people in line have priority. I know later in the day, depending on the store clerk, they will hold a title for you for 30 minutes to an hour. But of course the title has to be there for them to hold it when you call.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I did report it and BB said they will mail out the next movie in my queue. I've mailed back a lot of movies over the years and this is the first time I had one go missing.

This has been my experience as well. The turn around for BB is about a week compared to two days for Netflix.

I hope people are contributing to the Blu-rays only at BB thread!

Either having both or alternating from one to the other is really the only option (and even then we still are hardly getting all the blu-ray releases...)

Those who are not using the store return option-are any of you satisfied with the turnaround time?

They normally "check in" my discs the next day after I mail them. My issue is getting the discs in my queue sent to me.

I received an email today from BB saying they received the movie I sent back 11 days ago. Must have had Cliff Clavin as a mail carrier.

Ah, so its one of those stores. I'm unsure why stores do this. Usually, at the store I go to they ask what time you will come get it and they will hold it until that time. You should ask to see where it states in their policy that they can only hold a movie for 30 minutes to an hour. The whole thing about how they state they can only hold the movie for that long is pure bull. Customer service has to be the priority here you would think. Make the customer happy so they keep coming back.

Nope. I have no idea why it takes them so much longer than Netflix....

Indeed. My guess is that it will turn into a very long wait tomorrow. I already called tonight to have 2 of them on hold for me at the store. So the stores will have them too. Going to go in and exchange 2 mailers for them tomorrow!

I'm guessing that you live close to a major metropolitan area? Because it's not unusual for a FULL WEEK to go by before I receive my next disc. In other words, I mail off the disc on Thursday, and nothing is done by BB until Monday, and then I wait another three days for the disc to arrive. Meanwhile, my disc from Netflix is almost always waiting in my mailbox two days after I put the previous one in the mailbox. So I can receive about as many movies in a month using the one-out-at-a-time subscription on Netflix as I can with three-out-at-a-time on BB. And BB costs twice as much for what amounts to the same number of movies per month.

They shipped me Bridemaids today and I'm once again lulled into what I am sure is a false sense of security over their crappy service lately. Every BD in my queue is labeled long wait, unavailable, or on order, except for transformers which doesn't release until next week.
does this happen to anyone else? they will ship a disc lower on my queue even though there are ones above that have been and are still listed as "available"...

Some times I will remove everything from my queue except the one disc I want and they will still send me something that was previously on my list, even though it was removed!

Hmm... My queue is showing Bridesmaids as On Order, and I was shipped another movie instead.

There are two slections for your queue shipping. Speed and Order. You have yours set to speed. WHen you have it set to order it will ship in the order of your queue. The problem is it waits from 1 to 5 days for the next item in your queus to become available. And 1 day is the lowest you can make it. So what happens is you end up having to wait at least an extra day for shipments.
I have mine set to speed because of this, that way at least they will be shipping the next title right away. Netflix works much better with queue management than Blockbuster.

aaronwt, thanks for that explanation, I wasn't aware of those options!
